View Full Version : im thinking new interior. 6mustang6 09-29-2005, 11:08 PM My birthdays coming up, and im was thinking about some things i can do with my birthday money. Either new carpets and seats, or some performance upgrades. What do you think i should do? tylerdru 09-29-2005, 11:09 PM Whats your interior like? Do you have pics? 6mustang6 09-29-2005, 11:16 PM Not at the moment, The front seats are torn up, and the carpets a little ragged. For it to be all original it's still in nice shape. The back seat is ok, but i feel like recovering them both, with the blue/white seat covers. But the seats and carpet are the only thing wrong with the interior. nualln 09-29-2005, 11:16 PM I wish my birthday was close, However I did get a bonus today at work! New trunk vinyl kit and air cleaner stickers for the restoration ordered today....woohoo! If you engine is sound, I would go with interior stuff, it's what the chicks care about. [sm=shades.gif] 6mustang6 09-29-2005, 11:17 PM Yeah, i know. Thats why im considering the seats ove duel exhaust.:D nualln 09-29-2005, 11:21 PM ORIGINAL: 6mustang6 Yeah, i know. Thats why im considering the seats ove duel exhaust.:D It's lame. Girls ohhh and ahhh over the car but once you tell them about stuff you've done to it, their eyes start to glaze over. They just want to go fast in a pretty car. They could care less about ported heads and 2 chamber mufflers. redstallion 09-29-2005, 11:24 PM 6mustang6...i'm in the same boat you are...my interor could use a makeover, but it's okay for being original.. i already put in a good stereo, sway bars, KYB's, full exhaust...and i'll be getting new wheels before an interior or paintjob... but i don't have a girlfriend....so what's that tell you? 6mustang6 09-29-2005, 11:26 PM HAHAHAHAHHA, Yeah, maybe it's the fact that they usually have no idea what your talking about, but if they want to go fast, then im their man.:D tylerdru 09-29-2005, 11:26 PM Are you talking about these covers? Man these are awesome! I might do the red/white http://mustangsunlimited.com/itemdy01.asp?T1=PY65BLU+01&Category=Interior+Trim&subCategory=Seat+Upholstery&CatKey=EMUSTANG After christmas I am saving up for paint until the end of the summer. If i have enough money then i will redo the interior. I think im gonna get a job as a lifeguard during the day and at the grocery store at night. By my junior year next year ill be drivng to school! [8D]. IF something goesd wrong then ill be driving an 03 altima[:@] nualln 09-29-2005, 11:28 PM Tyler, those are for pony interiors. Unless you have a pony interior car already, they wont fit. There is a conversion though. 6mustang6 09-29-2005, 11:30 PM Yeah, those covers, front and back. They look good. My car is entirely stock, except i have steel style rims on it. A wooden Grant steering wheel, and i also put the wood grained dash. Besides that and a pertronix ignitor 2, it's stock. The next performance upgrade, will be duel exhaust. I love loud cars.:D nualln 09-29-2005, 11:32 PM How do you like that steering wheel? Ive got the same one on mine and I love it. that center strip gets a tad too hot on sunny days though. tylerdru 09-29-2005, 11:33 PM well, i dont ahve to have a pony interior. I have dual exhausts, BUT THE FREAKING GLASS PACKS KEEP IT QUIET.[:@] http://mustangsunlimited.com/itemdy01.asp?T1=966+01&Category=&catkey=EMUSTANG I want that steering wheel 6mustang6 09-29-2005, 11:34 PM The seats are different? Would i have to change the foam, or everything? newownerof72 09-29-2005, 11:35 PM If she doesn't know anything about cars and doesn't share your interests, what the heck do ya see in her? lol :D As a woman who knows something about cars..I have found that guys like a girl who will get her hands dirty, am I right? tylerdru 09-29-2005, 11:36 PM It looks like the foam is thicker in the deluxe seats. Oh yeah um how can i tell if my seats are original. Im sure its on the cover somewhere...but where? nualln 09-29-2005, 11:36 PM ORIGINAL: tylerdru http://mustangsunlimited.com/itemdy01.asp?T1=966+01&Category=&catkey=EMUSTANG I want that steering wheel That's the one were talking about. (at least the one I'm talking about) Oh, and I looked up the kit for converting your car to pony interior, its like 600 bucks and comes with everything except a dashpad and carpet. newownerof72 09-29-2005, 11:37 PM Sorry...I forgot to say that I think those seats are great and I would buy them, too. 6mustang6 09-29-2005, 11:39 PM The steering wheel is nice, but i cant keep my center cap on there. I need to glue the sucker on there or something. Most women down here dont like cars, they like trucks[:'(] but i dont really care, it doesn't bother me any. tylerdru 09-29-2005, 11:41 PM Thats how it is at my school. TRUCKS. Although there were 2 classics today. Stangsrda****, Trey, goes to my school. His car sounds like hes running open headers. 6mustang6 09-29-2005, 11:44 PM Yeah, i cant wait to put on some flows, with H pipe. MAn, thats sucks about the seats. redstallion 09-29-2005, 11:44 PM As a woman who knows something about cars..I have found that guys like a girl who will get her hands dirty, am I right? yep nualln 09-29-2005, 11:45 PM ORIGINAL: 6mustang6 The steering wheel is nice, but i cant keep my center cap on there. I need to glue the sucker on there or something. Most women down here dont like cars, they like trucks[:'(] but i dont really care, it doesn't bother me any. HAHA yes! I was on a date and it popped off and hit me in the crotch. It was really embarrassing. Anyway: For the pony interior conversion kit, go to www.cjponyparts.com and type in "PCK1" for the part number. Also those carpeted floor mats with the running horse are really good looking. Ive got a pair in mine: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v74/nualln/mustang/interior.jpg tylerdru 09-29-2005, 11:46 PM what would you do first flows with turn downs or headers with the glass packs? Im thinking that the flows and turn downs should go first because the glasspacks will just quiet the thing down. 6mustang6 09-29-2005, 11:47 PM They do look good, but i have a set of the original ones that came with my car. There still holding up after 40 years. tylerdru 09-29-2005, 11:49 PM Ive got to get some dice! man those are awesome! nualln 09-29-2005, 11:49 PM ORIGINAL: tylerdru what would you do first flows with turn downs or headers with the glass packs? Im thinking that the flows and turn downs should go first because the glasspacks will just quiet the thing down. Get some tri-y's bolted straight onto purple hornies glasspacks. It will be loud enough for anyone! http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=partdetail.asp&autofilter=1&Ntt=purple+glasspack&N=4294904109∂=BIG%2D50232&autoview=sku&Ntk=KeywordSearch Oh, and I took the dice off, they swing too much when youre driving. 6mustang6 09-29-2005, 11:52 PM That you car nualln? If so, it looks really nice. I got the kicks with speakers too. So what kind of system are you running? I have a Kenwood 200 watt cd player, (under the dash), 2 pioneer 4 way speakers up front, 2 3 way pioneer4x6 speakers in the back, and a 460 watt amp and sub in the trunk. It's a cheap good sounding little system. Oh, and your lucky about the steering wheel. You dont have to paint the hub, mines still black on my blue steering column. Ill put up pics of my interior as soon as i get back my digital camara. tylerdru 09-29-2005, 11:53 PM The parental units wont go for that! Thats what Trey did. Its really cheap because i could install it all myself. 6mustang6 09-29-2005, 11:56 PM You talking about a stereo or exhaust? tylerdru 09-29-2005, 11:59 PM Exhaust, but ill do my own stereo also. Ive already got a bigass hole in my dash! Man I live in the perfect spot for a mustang. Year one 30 min away. Mustangs unlimited 15 min. way. Summit 45 min away., Metro parts market(something like that) 45 min. away they have a junkyard of classic stangs, and they do restoration., nualln 09-29-2005, 11:59 PM 6mustang6, Yeah, thats my baby. My sound system consists of a jvc "chameleon" head unit that is completely black when it's off; 2 Rockford 6X9 "punch" speakers in the package tray; 2 cheapo best buy speakers in the kicks (I hate them, you can barely hear them); and a "backseat driver" which is 2 8" boss subwoofers with a 200 watt boss amp mounted behind the rear seat. It's not really thumpy, but it gives me enough bass for good rock music. What pioneers did you go with? I couldnt find any name brand speakers that would fit that depth since it's so shallow. Tyler: Yeah, my dad did this in his 68 way back in the day, he said it was so loud that it shook pictures off the walls of his parents house when he pulled in the garage. From now on, this is the measure of all exhaust systems: how many pictures can you knock off the walls. tylerdru 09-30-2005, 12:01 AM Could I do that and get a muffler that would quiet it down a good bit? My dad ran black jack headers with cherry bombs on his fastback. His fastback looked like clutch's with two black strips. nualln 09-30-2005, 12:05 AM Well, cherry bombs are hella loud, probably some of the loudest mufflers you could get and still call it a muffler. To tell you the truth, im not sure how loud purples are. BTW: 3 pages already? Sorry for jacking your thread, 6. 6mustang6 09-30-2005, 12:07 AM They dont fit it perfectly, i had to adjust them awhile. I bought the 4 of them at Walmart for $148. Then i had to modify the metal just a tad on the car, but i didn't cut anything. I dont know exactly what kind they were though. Look in Walmart. There kinda big speakers. nualln 09-30-2005, 12:08 AM ORIGINAL: 6mustang6 They dont fit it perfectly, i had to adjust them awhile. I bought the 4 of them at Walmart for $148. I had to modify the metal under the package tray for the 6x9's to fit. PITA! I guess you could get some 1" spacers, but still. 6mustang6 09-30-2005, 12:09 AM Ah man, i enjoy talking about this stuff, why do you think im still here?:D tylerdru 09-30-2005, 12:10 AM We are talking about two things 6mustang wants:D Get some tri-ys with the purples 6. Then drive to my house and rev her up so i know if thats what i want.;) 6mustang6 09-30-2005, 12:11 AM How'd you get 6x9's to fit? I had problems mounting 4x6s. Did you put your speakers on top of the package tray, where you can see them? I had them installed underneath it, but it cut the sound down too much, now they're lying in my back seat. Im going to put them back up, the only problem is, that they are made to not have grilles. So they'd look ugly on top of the tray. tylerdru 09-30-2005, 12:11 AM Why dont we go into the chat?[8D] so we can talk constantly. 6mustang6 09-30-2005, 12:14 AM doesn't matter to me. nualln 09-30-2005, 12:16 AM I put them on top of the package tray. On the metal, It's just a tad bit too small, so I used the tin snips to cut little slits around the frame where the 6x9s go and then bent the flaps down. It's hard to explain, but you get the idea. Tyler, Nahh, lets just see how many pages we can get. 6mustang6 09-30-2005, 12:17 AM We are talking about two things 6mustang wants Get some tri-ys with the purples 6. Then drive to my house and rev her up so i know if thats what i want. Ill do that, but it'll have to be with Flowmasters. I already have two of them sitting in my basement. Do you know what a set of tri y's would cost for a mustang? nualln 09-30-2005, 12:17 AM about 130 bucks. tylerdru 09-30-2005, 12:19 AM Would the flowmaster 50's bolt right up and keep it a lot quieter? 6mustang6 09-30-2005, 12:19 AM Yeah, i had enough room for them, It was hard, because they are supposed to be mounted under the tray. and thats how i had them, but they liked to rattle, no matter what. If i put them on top, they'll look ugly, but thats what i will have to do. nualln 09-30-2005, 12:20 AM ORIGINAL: tylerdru Would the flowmaster 50's bolt right up and keep it a lot quieter? No, you would need to weld it in the exhaust system. 6mustang6 09-30-2005, 12:22 AM Forget the 50's get the 40's, they are louder. tylerdru 09-30-2005, 12:22 AM I have already loosened the manifold to hear the open header sound. I doesnt sound good. I have to have a rumble. If glen were here he would be telling us to get ravins. I swear he works for them:D I wonder if i could weld these my self. you can rent a welder at home depot. they teach you how to use it. I hear that it is easy to do as long as you are not welding aluminum. nualln 09-30-2005, 12:23 AM Is there any way to tell what flows you have? The previous owner had them installed and I have no clue what series they are. Is there a code stamped on the outside or something? 6mustang6 09-30-2005, 12:25 AM i dont think so, unless someone knows how to decipher the code. because they dont jsut say 40's on them. tylerdru 09-30-2005, 12:26 AM I dont know but i want to know if i have got some good glass packs because they look like those hush power 2 mufflers at 130 each. 6mustang6 09-30-2005, 12:28 AM My dad had a 65 hipo with glass packs. He told me he had to cut the car off, and coast up the street to take my mom home. I told him i hope he knew how rare that car is, but it was sorta stolen from him. nualln 09-30-2005, 12:30 AM ORIGINAL: tylerdru I have already loosened the manifold to hear the open header sound. I doesnt sound good. Yeah, that's not good. Plus exhaust gasses can get in the interior through holes in the firewall. I dont want to hear your dad come on this forum and get mad at us cause his son died due to carbon monoxide poisoning. tylerdru 09-30-2005, 12:31 AM My god! My dads 68 fastback was amazing. he had everthing done to it. but no he trades it for a trans am, and then a POS sedan.:( I could have a fastback right now. It was a jersey car though. So right now its probably a rust bucket. tylerdru 09-30-2005, 12:31 AM wait... how come my glasspack are quiet? 6mustang6 09-30-2005, 12:33 AM LOL, we didn't tell him to do it, besides, you'll blow the gasket out if you dont watch out. nualln 09-30-2005, 12:33 AM My dad sold his 68 coupe in the late 70's cause the front end was giving him trouble. 1200 bucks is was he sold if for. Damn, it was probably just a tie rod or pitman arm bushing. 6mustang6 09-30-2005, 12:34 AM if you have glass packs, and there not loud, you must have a massive exhaust leak somewhere, or something. tylerdru 09-30-2005, 12:35 AM I did it literally for 2 seconds! 6mustang6 09-30-2005, 12:37 AM ok, but an engine wont sound to good right at the pipes. nualln 09-30-2005, 12:37 AM 289's really arent that loud at idle, but when the rpm's pick up, they rock'n'roll. tylerdru 09-30-2005, 12:38 AM I do have an exhaust leak! thats it im fixing it this weekend. One manifold taps and the other is missing a bolt. 6mustang6 09-30-2005, 12:40 AM but, your glass packs should still be loud. and your right. I say my 289 sounds like a 6 banger, when i hear it idleing. tylerdru 09-30-2005, 12:41 AM Maybe they arent glass packs. The previous seller said they were! nualln 09-30-2005, 12:43 AM ORIGINAL: tylerdru Maybe they arent glass packs. The previous seller said they were! The previous seller, or previous owner? :D But in all seriousness...what do they look like? Glasspacks look like straight cylinders, while regular flows or chamber mufflers look like ovals. 6mustang6 09-30-2005, 12:43 AM Maybe, what do they look like? tylerdru 09-30-2005, 12:45 AM They are cyndrlical. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=4572053262&sspagename=STRK%3AMEAFB%3AIT theres my ^^^^ tylerdru 09-30-2005, 12:47 AM Ohh yeah my manifold was never cracked! it was the thermostat housing. But i still need a carburetor 6mustang6 09-30-2005, 12:53 AM Looks good, Wheres you lighter knob?;) lol, yeah, that hole looks ugly, but maybe you you put a radio in it, it'd cover all that up. tylerdru 09-30-2005, 12:55 AM Im saving up for one.:D My dad's buying that stuff becuase hes not allwed to help me out. even though he pitched in $50 for the manifold.;) The rear bumper is on the garage floor![8D] And that hole is bigger than any cd player. so im gonna go shopping for an eight track this weekand. nualln 09-30-2005, 01:02 AM Why would anyone do that to their dash!! How well is that rear quarter patched up? does it look ok from the outside? tylerdru 09-30-2005, 01:06 AM I havent noticed it. Its the only part on the car that failed the magnet test. All the rust is gone. I sanded it to bare metal and it has been down to bare metal for a month. The rust hasnt come back. I got a piece to repair my dash but then i got a qoute of $250. Im gonna call a welder soon. tylerdru 09-30-2005, 01:17 AM Do glass packs have a loud idle? It was pretty quiet driving 60 down teh highway. If i give a nice rev it is pretty loud. I might just need some headers. and also do i need a new pipe or can they just cut the pipes? Will it be cheaper if i bolt the headers down to the heads and have them hook up the pipes. How much could i look forward to spending. redstallion 09-30-2005, 03:15 AM i have dual magnaflows (glasspacks) with an H-pipe and flow-tech headers... it's not really loud at idle, but it's a pretty deep and low sounding rumble (esp. for a smallblock) on heavy acceleration it screams and sounds pretty badass flowmasters sound good...but i bought magnaflows because i was sold on the "straight-through" design for performance AND it sounds awesome Soaring 09-30-2005, 10:16 AM You guys know what mufflers I like......RAVINS......nice low rumble at idle, and it talks to you at speed, but not enough so you have to stop the car to carry on a conversation. :D Tyler, after you get the headers on, take the car to a muffler shop for them to hook it up. I forgot how much I paid, but not as much as I had previously thought. Maybe a hundred bucks or so. |
