Hi. I got my Borla / Ford Racing muffler installed tonight. VERY SIMPLE installation.
Startup is awesome!!! Idle is very low and growling. Sounds extremely nice! Turned a lot of heads. Looks great also!! The chrome against the sonic blue is nice. I will post picture tomorrow - too dark now.
One ?: Will this mellow slightly over time? If I had the ability I would turn the volume down just one notch. It is fighting with my sound system a little bit more than I wanted. I have about 10 miles on it and it actually seems to be getting a little softer or my ears use to it one.
Funny story: Took it out driving tonight. In town an older Eclipse pulled up beside of me with one of those whining coffee can exhaust. APC I am assuming because their decals were all over the car......................Typical rice. Could not see the driver due to the darkness of the windows, but he reved his engine like he was wanting to race. I reved mine one time and that was the last time he did his ;)

Can't stand those wanabe import tuners, they put one of those fart makers on the back of their car and think the've got a ride. I usually don't race that much anymore, but just the other day I had to put some moron, in one of those box Scions, in his place. That was more wasted gas to me than a race, but these people just irritate the crap out of me. Damn wanabes, sometimes I just want to beat them over the head with a chair.
Former police cheif died this week and funeral was today so town was CRAWLING WITH COPS! Not to mention how stupid it was to think about racing a mustang in an eclipse, but the fact cops were everywhere was just plain DUMB!
Damn, I hate these stock caprisun-straw exhaust. Going to make the jump to dualies.. eventually..
Looking good, steve. Burn 'em.. one ricer at a time.
Reminds me of the '95 Miata MX-5 that was tailgating me on the freeway, today. Gave him a nice lesson in american muscle, I'm sure he felt accomplished when we hit traffic and he caught up.
I went with flowmasters and after about ehh 3-400 miles the sound dies done some. Becomes richer, at idle. But if you get high speed rumble (aka your mufflers vibration is resonatin in your cabin) you might just have to dynomat it. At about 73-78 my car has the loud groan where you can feel it in your brains. I dont mind it too much, but. . . on a lond haul, it might get bad (but i go 80-85 so it only sucks in traffic)
Have about 50 miles and they have really mellowed out dramatically. They sound very nice now. I am still going to add another layer or two of Dynamat over that right corner of the trunk. I have the entire trunk coated with about 1/4 of sound deadening spray, so I am getting very little in the cabin.

hi where do you get that soud denener spray? i got some flowmasters with a pretty bad irratating drone. -jim
Take everything out of the trunk and tape it off of course :)
I got six cans of PRO sound dampening spray by 3m at advance. There is a regular kind that is CRAP and there is the PRO version that is really nice and lays down a good layer of rubber. I was pleased with it and it made a noticable difference.

what do you mean by tape it .like where in the trunk and what kind of tape etc. etc. if youve already taped yours up some pics would be good. and where did you buy the spray?
Yep tape off just like you were painting. I put plastic garbage bags over my back seats too!!! There is some plastic trip that needs to be taped over as well.
It worked for me :) Cheap and effective sound deadening. I think a few layers of dynamat would be more deadening, but that would have been a fortune and very hard to deal with the small openings, irregular surfaces, etc.
I am glad I sprayed it in.
As for the exhaust! About 75 miles on it now and the volume level has really decreased. It is pleasant to drive again, but once you get on the gas you know its there :) Sound has gotten very deep and not rasspy at all. I love it and I have gotten a lot of comments.
I can only imagine would duals would sound like.
If you are looking to replace the exhaust on yor V6, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS!
Congrats! I am not clear on the Borla exhaust you installed, though. The pictures below look like it's a simple replacement for the factory muffler and tail pipe. Is it a dual exhaust system? Also, how much louder is it? I have a convertible and I am wary of increasing the noise, but want the grumble and added HP if I can get it without putting in Dual exhaust.
As or noise, I am not sure......sometimes it is quite as it can be and very nice growl to it, other times it seems really loud............ I am going to take my battery loose and reset the computer that way to see if that may be the problem.
Had it out last night and it was flat out annoying, but driving to work Friday it was smooth and nice.
