i run the car in my siggy...it has had some work to clear up some minor issues since it ran 12.60s, last season. we were having some timing issues, and the cam gear on the distributor was bad, so we fixed that, and put in new double springs and a new timing chain, since the springs that i had were about 8 years old...it seems alot better than it was on the street, but i have not gotten atrack pass, as on my first attempt, it fried the tranny...my dad ran it the week before, and launching at 2000rpm, and shifting at 5 grand, and ran 12.90s, with 1.85-1.90 60' times...he also wasnt doing burnouts because he "didnt want to chew up my tires"...when i ran low 60s and high 70s, it was launching at 3200 and shifting at 6200...with 1.69-1.72 60s...i feel that it was much better with the minor work that was done, and there was some weight reduction work done..maybe a hundred pounds or so were taken out...while the tranny is apart it is being rebuilt, and the TC is being worked to 3500 stall. so i think that it will run a little better than before, but since im not a "will-run" person, my car does run 12.68-12.71 consistantly.

ORIGINAL: Ride Of The Month fallstar, you want to run a new cobra...? are those slips that you posted a while back the fastest that you have run? while i have actually seen a few crappy drivers spin their way to 13 second runs in new cobras, youd have to admit, a 13.1 and 13.2 arent going to get it done vs the coupes, with a competant driver...the majority of stockers that i have seen, with good drivers are running very low 13s to high 12s, with some with good skins getting into the mid 12s...i agree with the comments that your MPH is very good for a 13.1 run, the fact of the matter is that (unless i missed some new slips) unless you can pull down a mid 12s run youre going to have a hard time... I didn't say it was easy, I just said I'm up for it. A few things have changed in my car since those runs(removed the spare tire/jack and got rid of the extra crap in my trunk, also installed a cooler thermostat and tweaked my tune) and the fact that it's cooler will help me just as much or more since I'm at higher boost and heat is more of a concern than the stock cobra. The edge that I have in RWHP, albeit very small, the fact that I don't have an IRS, could make up for the fact that I've got 3.27 gears and crappy rubber. In the end it should be a drivers race. I'll be getting the 3.73s soon, the tires shortly there after. Who knows, I might be in the low 12s or better. Either way, I'm up for the challenge and it could be fun.

well, my car has some power, but im fighting against the weight...with me in it, and only enough gas to make it down the track, and back to my pit stall, its tipping the scales around 3740...(when it ran 12.60s)...i tried to weight it the day that it blew the tranny when i was riding it around the track warming it up, but the scale was fugged up, and it told me that the car weighed negative 1400 pounds...i have room to build without putting anything crazy in it...im running an auto 3 speed with 4.10 gears, so i could go bigger gear. also most of the guys running my engine have big valve heads (2.02/1.67) i only have 1.88 intake valves. also, my compression is only around 9 to 1, and im running those times on 87 octane. a friend of mine is an indy cylinder heads retailer, and he said that he can get me a set of indy aluminum SB heads for "only" 1700 bucks, and he told me that if it didnt run into the 11s with those heads, we could take the car to his shop and he would work on the car until it was into the 11s...he has a few 8 and 9 second cars, but right now, i enjoy the fact that i can run mid 12s on cheap gas...and my car runs so cool, that if im hot lapping,i can make three passes on a cool night without turning on my fans...2 passes without turning on the water pump...

ORIGINAL: 97_GT_Muscle The 12.7 - 12.9 was prior to adding my Mickey Thompson drag radials. The 12.7 - 12.9 was with a 60' of 2.53. Now I am running 11.5 - 11.7 with a 60' time of 1.78. Amazing what happens when you hook. Like I said I will gladly go up against the 04 Cobra. Well, I did run a 12.1 on street tires with a 2.3 60' @ 120 mph. Do I get to run MT drags also?

honestly Jdan, if i lived near you i would let you borrom a set of tires just so you could get some real times with your car...if for nothing else, so i could stop moderating all of the "your car should be faster" arguements. i wouldnt run you for money or pinks or anything stupid like that, but hell, ill run anyone, especially on the dial...

ive never heard of them, but this sounds like quite a challenge! Jdan, junk or not, you have to admit there has to be something done right for his @v to be in the mid 11s... if i may, ive not heard of SHM, but that is for obvious reasons...most people here, if not everyone here, probably has never heard of hemphill racing engines. Gary, i think that even with the pulley work and the iced intercooler, you would have a hard time getting into the 10s on DRs without some serious suspension work..but i certainly could be wrong, as i am not sure what you have done to the suspension right now. so, whats a track near the midpoint of West Palm Beach, FL , and Killeen, TX?
