cobra rear bumper questio

Hello, I've been having a disagreement with a buddy at work about rear buper embossing on early model SVT Cobras... Basically, a guy pulled in our store with a '95 SVT Cobra. At least, he said it was a Cobra, and I believed him. But the rear bumper simply had "Mustang" embossed into it. My buddy claims it should say "Cobra". I've been looking at as many pics on the web as I could find, but the aren't that many that show the rear bumper. I know I've seen Cobra rear bumpers as well, but when did they go into production? It should say cobra....and have cobra emblems in the grill and on the fenders....and have a ballsy motor.

Hmmm...It had a Cobra badge on the steering wheel. It had snake emblems on the front fenders. It an SVT badge on the left rear of the trunk. It had the front bumper with integrated fog lights. It had a black leather shift boot. But it did not say Cobra on the rear bumper. Any other thoughts?

yeah, my thoughts are its a GT that the guy put a front bumper on and bought the badges. I knew a guy who did all that with his 95.

Man. Why wouldn't the guy go the extra mile and buy the rear bumpre as well? Seems to have put enough money in it now making people think its' a Cobra.

You are all incorrect! Real 94-95 cobras DO NOT say Cobra on the rear bumper they merely say Mustang like you described. These cobras are more rare being that they are 5 litre cobras and not 4.6 ones. Also 94-95 cobras do not have the cool hood with the hood scoops. These cobras do come with the cool wing on the decklid though. There is no third break light on the trunklid also. Sorry I just wanted to clear things up. I have a 94 cobra and I love it, and yes it only says Mustang on the rear bumper but it doesnt bother me I know I have a somewhat rare cobra

I agree with 94cobrahoe! My '97 cobra does have an embossed rearend but I don't believe the '95 cobra does. BTW, he would be foolish to spend nearly a grand on new airbags and save a few hundred on a rear bumper. I think he's legit.

Im not lieing you can ask any 94-95 cobra owners, all of them came as I just described. If you see a 94 or 95 cobra with a cobra rear bumper it is only because they updated it to the newer 96-98 bumper. I plan on doing it to...

Not all 96 - 98 models have the cobra logo on the front either, some just have a plain horse logo.

Actually, no mustang cobra comes with a snake in the front. Any cobra you see with the snake has been altered by its owner. Yeah I know I suck but I used to obsess over cobras, not that I still dont but all mustangs come with the "floating" running pony in the grill.

My 99 cobra does not say cobra on the rear, And so do many others I see, maybe the bumper is not the stock one? Maybe he had it replaced and did not care if it said cobra or mustang. The bumper does not make the car, It is the engine, and the better interior that makes a cobra a cobra. If it has a DOHC engine it is a cobra.

You guys are all missing the point. 94-95 Cobras DID NOT COME with cobra on the bumper. No matter what that is how Ford made them. Only in 96 did they update to the COBRA rear bumper. Also droptopsnake, Ford did do it again in 99. Your rear bumper should say MUSTANG. Only in '01 did they again go to the newer COBRA rear bumper. Sorry if I seem like an ass but I have researched this very thing before.

You do not sound like an ass. You have researched this topic and are right... I looked into it also, and I found the same thing you did. I am curious, did you find out why Ford chose to redo it in 1996? I have no clue, and was wondering if anyone knew? Also are all cobra's SVT cobra's or are there cobra's and SVT cobra's? Thanks

All Cobras are SVT. Someone told me that the reason that the 94-95 cobras dont have the "cool" hood and bumper is that Ford did not know if the Cobra would sell, and didnt plan to produce it in 96. So they just stuck to the cheap v6 bumper and the stock Mustang hood. When they noticed the sales on the Cobra was very good they decided to put the new hood and bumper on. Also real 94/95 cobras do NOT have a 3rd breaklight in the decklid its on the wing, the only good thing about these cobras is there 5 litres and the wing. Its a little different than the gt wing, and has a 3rd breaklight.94CobraHoe37849.8517476852

I know the 93 cobra's rear bumper was unique to only it (looked like the GT's but slanted up at the bottom to expose the tips) but was anything embossed on it?

No there is nothing embossed on the bumper or side either. The groundeffects look a little different, for lost the gt scoops right behind the front air dam and right before the rear wheel. Alot of people pull off Cobra clones in the hatchback years. The only year they were made was in 93 and they came in 3 colors, teal, black and red.
