This may or may not help, but it should be on the info plate on the drivers door.

I understand how to decode it from the door tag. I am trying to verify the rear end matches the door tag or if maybe someone swithed it out (rear end) at some point in it's life.

0- 3.00:1 standard

5- 1965

C - March build date

E- Supposed to be the week it was built- Maybe this is a number like a 3?

906 - Plant code

As you can see, these numbers do not tell you much about the rear end.

You need the WC** code off the tag! Then I can tell you what the rear end gears you have.

Even with that number, some former owner could have changed the gears. The 65 had no numbers matching parts such as the rear end and the tranny matching, etc. so that will be no help. Take a picture of the pumpkin and post it here so we can tell you what rear end you most likely have, such as an 8" or a 9". As far as the gears though, you won't know that for sure unless you tear into the pumpkin. If you suspicion it is the original rear end, then go by the data plate info. If you have a tach, you will be running at about 2100-2500 RPM at 70 MPH with the 3.00:1 rear. Approaching 3000 RPM would be a 355 or more.
