Not even thinking that this car would use a synthetic blend, I did an oil change with 10W-40. (It dawned on me after I'd drained the oil, changed the filter, and was about to fill 'er back up again)
A) I plan to change back to 5W-30 blended synthetic
B) considering this isn't a high compression engine (and not sure if that would even make a difference..) what harm is there in going from a syn. blend, to standard oil, back to a syn. blend? She's driven it about 200 miles since...
I'll have to double check, but I believe the owners manual does not require ("need") synthetic, but recommends a synthetic blend (and naturally, the brand that Ford has a shared interest in)
My BMW actually REQUIRED it in its owners manual, and some say it is due to the high compression engine, though I'm not mechanically-educated enough to argue that point.
Hey, RedhotGT05, love that stripe you have on your Stang, was that a custom paint job aftermarket?
I'll go check my manual tomorrow, but I could have sworn it was required, not "recommended". But if it also "recommends" at least 87 gas, then they mean "otherwise you'll be sorry!"
Thanks for the compliment, the stripe is a decal I put on from stencilsandstripes.com.

Ok, I just checked the manual and it does indeed say 5w-20 synthetic blend is "recommended". And as I thought, it also "recommends" at least 87 octane fuel. So go ahead and use regular dino oil and some 83 octane fuel and let me know how that works for ya
