Amsoil is one of the best, but I use Castrol synthetic. Basically any synthetic is better than any conventional oil.

mobile 1 makes my car burn oil an smoke changed to reg. oil and have no problems now

hotrod..I'm sure you have some blow by....so how many miles on the beast? might want do a compression test..I bet the valve seals need some attention

On start up or after the vehicle's already warmed up?

I'm willing to bet you have a minor leak, and due to synthetics flowing easier when cold they find their way into the crack quicker before the metal expands from the heat and seals it up. That or you might be using a thicker weight oil.....or really old gasket material.
