Default 3.73 or 4.10 gears help?

I am a bit confussed as to what difference will be made if I changed to 3.73 or 4.10 gears. This is the first time I have ever thoguht about changing gears because I heard there was a plus side but I dont know what that is.

I don't know what the stock gears are in my V6, but about three weeks ago I put in 4:10's and a possi. What a differance it made. It's so damn quick now. My friend did it first about 2 months ago, but didn't get the possi because it was too much money. What a dumb ass, his drive tire spins like he's on ice. After he saw how quick mine was he got the possi put in and had to pay the same labor for the work. In short, get the possi when you get lower gears!

T-lok is possi, just a differant type. I think the best is a limited slip possi, but they are more money, but well worth the reliability.

summit or jegs should have them, I think they're a couple hundred bucks, but there is an alternative, depending on whether you have an 8.8 or 7.5 rear axle you might be able to find a LS in a junk yard if you look hard enough, if you have an 8.8 look for a Ranger with a 4.0(are the stang 8.8's 28 or 31 spline axle shafts? if they're 31 you'll only be able to use one from an explorer, any year). look on the sticker on the drivers door, if the axle code starts with a letter then it's most likely a LS, if you have a 7.5", look for any year Ranger that doesn't have the 4.0L engine and use the same door sticker method. with the door sticker you don't have to get dirty looking for the axle tag, and if the door's missing and it has the tag, look on the bottom line if the numbers are like: 3L73 or whatever it'll have a LS, if it's 3 73 it'll be a regular open carrier, sometimes the first number is covered by the bolt so if it just says L73 or whatever then, yeah</P>

limited slip/traction lock is the Ford version of posi. it's basically an open carrier with some clutch disks mixed in that warm up and grab when one side is sliping much more than the other</P><edited><editID>rangerfredbob</editID><editDate>37994.0052662037</editDate></edited>

In my humble opinion, I think Auburn makes the best possi.

There about $400.00 with tax and shipping.Auburn <edited><editID>HotRods_n_Booze</editID><editDate>37994.5920717593</editDate></edited>
