Since when do chunks of metal, plastic and cloth have a sexual orientation? Do you have any intelligent conversation you can actually bring to this discussion?

I'm enjoying this thread, Xbc welcome to the forums btw... You seem to have a decent head on your shoulders and you're not here to pick fights from what I've seen.

Why does it matter how many cylinders there are? I beat a 97GT once, and got beat by a 97GT once. Why wouldnt the 97GT owner be happy he beat me?

It matters because it limits your ability to make power. I know you can make the same power but usually only with large amounts of money. I don't hate 4 cylinders or FWD, but for drags, I am definately leanent (<awful spelling on that one I think) to one direction (at least a V8 and RWD/AWD). Sure you can slap on a turbo to something like a civic (just an example, not "hating" on them) and be beating non FI V8's, but if they do the same it turns around once again usually.

Not trying to start some war on FWD 4 cyl. vs. RWD V8's, just how things really are in my opinion. My car is damn slow and would still get beat by many boosted 4 cyls. But an equally built V8 should beat an equally built 4 cyl. (Yes, I know things like wieght have to be considered but I am just talking about in general.)

wouldnt is be easier to mod a v8 to more horsepower with less money than something with lesser cylinders?

it all comes down to pwr to weight ratio not whether u have 4 or 8 cyl.

it basically comes down to which school of thought u go to:
#1 big engine, heavy car (ie mustangs)
#2 small engine, light car (ie SRT-4)

both run = times and r just about =

so this theory of mustangs shouldnt brag about beating 4 bangers is a bunch of BS. b/c im sure their r some 4 bangers out their that could beat me and if i were to beat those fast little f**ks i would brag like hell.

They don't run equal times really. Maybe when you get down to full out drag cars, but not really as far as street cars from what I've seen. You don't see many street legal sub 9 second 4 bangers, but I can't even begin to count how many street legal sub 9 V8s I've seen. It does come down to power to wieght ratios, but the amount of power that can be produced between a 4 cyl. and V8 is pretty large from what I've seen. (Maybe I haven't seen the right 4 bangers, I don't know.)

like i said u have a choice of which route to do down. i chose the big engine heavy car b/c i think it is more classy to drive something w/ a lot of pwr over somthing that is simply light in weight. that is just me. but like i said b4 some 4 bangers (esp. turbos) can be nasty little f**ks

ummm.. from what i've seen, they run pretty equal. hell, there's been videos posted in the video section of srt-4s just barely getting beat or just barely beating a 99-04 GT. stock vs stock of course.

Again, I'm not talking stock. Of course they can keep up with a non FI V8. It would be pitifull if they couldn't.

As far as cobras go, that really comes down to the AWD factor. Plus, in my opinion cobras are pigs with not enough displacement. But thats just me, I would want a 350 or larger motor. I plan on swapping in a 5.8 because my 5.0 is too damn small in my opinion. ( me and my tiny weewee.)

I was replying to the original post, Not about why it matters how many cylinders you have in drag racing. If the guy in the 97GT beat me then he should be able to brag because his car stock is a lot slower than mine. Just because his car had twice the engine size, so what...

That's because 99.9999999% of the guys building a four banger want it within limits of being able to drive like a sane person at least half the time they're in the car. As JD1969 has said, "street legal" is a loose term and is defined by the builder and owner of the car... much the same reason on how exterior styling is subjective.

You seem to think that because a lot of domestic owners are going for the title of "worlds fastest street legal X brand here" that car enthusiasts including Import and domestic owners do as well. That's just not the case, so quit thinking like that.

All I care about with my car is putting more pep into it, without having to worry about if I'm going to spin out in snow and without paying 800 a month just to have a V8. If I break 13s, great. I'd be happy that I could potentially beat that mustang next to me, if I chose to street race that is.
