OK, so on my '96 I now have a wicked squealing sound coming from the front of my car, which I'm pretty sure is the brakes because that's what happens when your pads are worn or contaminated. Anyway, I took the front wheels off and checked the pads, and they have a lot of life left in them it would appear because there's a lot of material still. So I used brake cleaner on the rotors and pads, applied anti-squeal compound to the pads, put everything back together, and it's stillscreeching like a banshee. It only squeals when the car is in motion, even at very low speeds, so my question is has anybody ever had contaminated pads even though they're not worn? Does anybody know if this could be an indication that the rotors will have to be turned? Any other ideas?

Did you check the bolts holding your coupler on. I had that problem the bolt came out when i would hit the brakes the brakes would grab, and the coupler would actually hit and grid on the top of the rotor.
I guess I should add that it's squealing whether or not the brakes are applied. If the car's moving, brakes on or not, it squeals. Pissing me off because the pads are almost new, and I don't want to replace the pads if that's not the problem. <IMG src=smileys/smiley7.gif border="0">

thats a huge indicator of the metal tab screaching againts the rotor only while driving , does the cars brakes pull ? prob not u didnt mention it , do the have an easy time moving back and forth after you are done appling the brakes , you prob dont have a baddly warped rotor , or you would have mentioned the pulsing . do u have drums ? in the rear , make sure there adj properly and dust free , </P>
Well I think I'll just have the front rotors turned. Not sure if that's the problem but I know it's not the pads. Wouldn't hurt to do it anyway. I just took the car out for a spin and did some hard braking to try to break off any glaze on the rotors, and it quieted the squeal down a lot, so it's possibly just the rotors. Trueing them might fix the problem. Maybe I should just spring for a complete brake upgrade. <IMG src=smileys/smiley14.gif border="0"></P>
To answer your question, no the car doesn't pull when braking. Everything is fine except for the squeal. The only other problem I noticed just now is the brake pedal was a little spongy when pressed initially, but much firmer when pressed again. That can be cured by bleeding the system though, no biggie. </P>

Check the pads also. There could be a piece of the pad broke off, stuck in the between the rest of the pad. <edited><editID>BLKSTANG9879</editID><editDate>37989.8539467593</editDate></edited>
