And furthermore, about the automatic point I was making. I was speaking in general terms, refering to your average joe who buys the really cool fast car but gets an automatic for the convenience, ease of it (meaning this guy). Not because he has the intention of building the auto up, putting in a converter, and retuning for the perfect shift points to be used in racing. As far as spray, goes, you can always throw in a bigger shot until it becomes an endurance test of the blocks. I don't think that really applies here unless you want to make a starement about which engine can take more abuse.

ORIGINAL: Fallstar01 We're talking about the completely stock auto shifting at the stock shift points vs. a manual. Not something with a big shift lever that you pull back each gear or a specially built auto just for 1/4 mile runs. After you do the $75.00 pulley, $15 belt, you can just as easily spray the cobra can't you? The pulley is dirt cheap and gives you a better starting point (like an extra 60+ rwhp). Superchargers do great with spray, especially when injected before the supercharger so it can get compressed. You can pretty much get away with a mail ordered generic tune for spray and pulley and run pretty big shot on the stock forged bottom end of the cobra without really worrying breaking anything. The auto's in our cars are not the same auto's you guys are used to. Our auto's are not junk and sloppy, as is the case with the Mustang auto's. When I was auto, it was bone stock, just had a stall. Most guys tune their car after just a pulley and catback....I can't imagine running a supercharged/nitrous/bolt-on car w/o a tune. The stock fuel system can only handle so much. If it's so easy to make these things run this fast, I don't know why there's not more out there doing it. Stock C6 on 150 shot. Notice the 30 day tag. Time slip:

We just had a thread on here a couple days ago where I listed two links to tons of guys who'd blew their Cobra's up at around 550-650rwhp. Most of them fried the pistons. For a few of them, the fried piston led to a cracked block.

I don't think that really applies here unless you want to make a starement about which engine can take more abuse. GM autos are a whole different world compared to autos in Fords, although recently Ford has been tryin to change that. But I think what 98LS1 is saying that if you spent 1000K evenly on both cars like a tires and N20 for the vette and tires pulley and a tune for the Cobra the Vette would usually be quicker. Now if you stuck to simple stuff like an intake or cat-back exhaust than we all know the Cobra's will respond better. And as for your last statement nobody said anything about which engine can take more abuse, but don't start thinking those motors are indistructable. They are impressive but nowhere near flawless.

I talked to Strictly Performance (THE premier Cobra tuner in the states) and they said 18 to 20 lbs of boost on the Cobra pistons is safe as long as you dont go WOT for a mile. 1/4 mile at WOT is perfectly safe they said.
