I have just installed all new pads,wheel cylinders,flexible hoses, wheel brake hardware, and master cylinder. I adjusted all the pads and also re-installed auto adjusters all around,  I bled the master before installing, and I bled all four wheel cylinders starting with the closest one to the master. The pedal is perfect, but it takes some serious pressure to stop the car. No ned to pump, again the pedal is perfect. I took the car to get a new exhaust and told them to please bleed the brakes and see if I still had air in the lines or m/c. The pedal came up very little and still hard brakes!! I have owned this car since 1976, it was my first car and I know how the brakes should feel. Now my 16 yr old is about to start driving it and I can't figure out the problem.....Some advise please guys.

I took it to Midas because they owed me a muffler from 20 yrs ago. (lifetime warranty). The way they do it now is to put an adapter on top of the m/c and put 30psi of fluid pressure through the system, then just go wheel to wheel and release until no air is detected at each one.

Still sounds like you have air in the system. It could be possible the Master Cyl. is bad. Does it stop o.k.? If so, then it could be you just forgot what all new  parts "feel like" in the pedal.
