I'm in the progress of buying a Mustang within the next few months or so and I was just wondering what's under the hood of a Saleen? Cobras and Saleens aren't on the Ford website and I would like to compare them. I know that Cobras have a Supercharged V8. And about how much do Saleens and Cobras run for? I know they're very pricey but I'm just leaving my options open. Thanx.

saleens are high and come in a couple different levels.. s281 has a n/a v-8 where as the s281 has a paxton novi2000 . saleens are known for their handling packages as well.. i want to say a saleen runs around 50k.. that is a guess!

The only Saleen to ever come with a Paxton supercharger was an 85 car which is owned by Stu Akers...the S281 Saleens come with an Eaton "roots style" supercharger. 375 hp for an '03 model yr and newer..price ranges are in the 50k range for a supercharged model for convertible and mid 40k for hardtop...Good luck
...all 03 and up blown Saleens come with a Lysholm twin screw blower. The S281e uses a bigger Lysholm unit capable of way more boost. Stock E's are rated at 445 hp.

True, but the Extreme model only uses 6 psi from the blower which is the same amount of boost from the SC model. It is capable of much more like you describle, upwards of 15 psi if wanted. 445 is standard hp rating, and yes, MM&FF did a comparision of both the E and '03 cobra and found the E was faster on the track and through the cones...but it still keeps the wallet for some extra $$$.
Saleenster, E model Saleens make 10-12 psi stock, not 6. I own an E, so I have a pretty good idea of the boost levels E's make. Just to let you know, that series v lysholm blower on the E is capable of 22+ lbs of boost-(similar to the kenne bell blowzilla). Oh, and E's will depreciate WAY less than cobras over time. When on the track with a cobra, the E didn't beat it, it wasted it!

Hi can anyone tell me whats the difference between a Mustang GT and a Mustang Saleen s-281 not supercharge. Is the saleen basicly a Mustang GT? I suppose that the saleen is faster as I have heard.

saleen is faster its a mustang gt with saleen body kit and suspension and along with enige and exhaust performance saleen products.saleen has 290hp oveer the gts 260.
So a saleen has the same motor as the 99+ GT? besides the exhaust stuff. I would def go with the Cobra since it has the DOHC motor. Or buy a fox body 5.0 for a few thousand and make major modifications to it!!! Thas what I would do.

Bang for buck.. Buy a Cobra and pocket the 10 grand for selected upgrades.. Steve builds a nice Saleen but I can't justify the pricy difference. All Steve is doing with the Saleen is competing with the Cobra. Buy the Cobra.. You won't be disappointed.
