Converting one manual to another is easy. But why would you want to convert your Cobra!?!?

PipsBlackStang -> RE: Gen. TECH: Manual transmissions, T5, T45, 3650, T56 ETC..... (9/6/2005 7:47:40 PM)

My 2nd gear syncro is shot on my t-45 tranny in my 96 GT. I called Ford and they told me they no longer sell rebuilt t-45 transmissions. What should I do now? Can other trannys fit without having to do anything major in fitting it? Thanks

PipsBlackStang -> RE: Gen. TECH: Manual transmissions, T5, T45, 3650, T56 ETC..... (9/6/2005 8:39:10 PM)

Anybody know the answer to my question? Im looking at all these different trannys and Im not sure what will fit or what will work.

How much money are you looking to spend?? There are plenty of places online that will sell rebuilt trannies, but most arn't really into it for the performance side of things. I got a rebuilt t45 and beat on it, and it gave out.

A TKO will fit with little or no problems. And there are several other transmissions out there that will work with some time and effort. Your best bet is to call someplace like D&D motorsports and tell em what car you have, what you plan to do with it (hp wise) etc and they should be able to steer ya in the right direction.

MikeHawke -> RE: Gen. TECH: Manual transmissions, T5, T45, 3650, T56 ETC..... (10/5/2005 2:56:56 PM)

is the 3650 a direct swap for the t45?

351cougar -> RE: Gen. TECH: Manual transmissions, T5, T45, 3650, T56 ETC..... (10/17/2005 6:10:21 PM)

If is all you got is a busted syncro, just take it and have it fixed, the best thing to do is pull the trans yourself and take it to a mechanic. Pullin it will save you some $$$. If you still want to do a swap, I do know you have to use a trans from a modular motor, in other words a t5 will not fit, can't use a tranny off a windsor motor(302, 351).

i have the same prob. in my t-5. does anyone know if i can get it fixed w/o needing to get a whole rebuild kit, so the shop doesn't screw me.

any one know what a World class T-5 is good to as far as power. i know what they say its good for but I have herd rummor of people runig alot more and not having problems. i think its rated at like 350 Hp or close to thare. I just wont to know If I can get by with one rather that going to to TKO.

That is Tremec's site, all their transmissions are on there and are rated.

mkspeed26 -> RE: Gen. TECH: Manual transmissions, T5, T45, 3650, T56 ETC..... (2/8/2006 1:05:44 PM)

the TKO600s are the best transmissions out, by far. The T56 is okay, but 6th gear is useless unless you want a little better fuel economy or if you are planning on going 175 MPH

goehls347 -> RE: Gen. TECH: Manual transmissions, T5, T45, 3650, T56 ETC..... (2/13/2006 11:55:30 AM)

thanks I think i will go witht he TKO 600 to play it safe and so it iwll last. it will save me money in the long run.

JtStyle -> RE: Gen. TECH: Manual transmissions, T5, T45, 3650, T56 ETC..... (2/24/2006 5:19:12 AM)

A few years back I had the same problem with my 86 GT. Luckily my father is a mechanic and he helped me rebuild the t-5 tranny. I recommend the World Class rebuild kit b/c it has better syncros. Along with the kit I had to replace the countershaft, 2nd + 3rd gear. Since you already have the tranny out replace the clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing. If you take the tranny to a shop to fix, make sure they use the World class kit otherwise you will end up with the same problem again. Lastly installing a short throw shifter will better your chances for not missing a gear.

I have a t-5 bolted to a 408 stroker using a centerforce dual friction clutch. It has about 120,000 miles on it. should this hold up very long? Also for such a big engine I have been told to switch to an auto, but I like to drive a stick. The car isn't strickly for racing i also, like to cruise. I was thinking about switching to a t-56 when this one blows up. Would this be a good upgrade for a stick shift? Thanks for the info.

hunter9s -> RE: Gen. TECH: Manual transmissions, T5, T45, 3650, T56 ETC..... (3/3/2006 8:18:15 AM)

I think that the T5 and the 3650 are a direct swap. Ford changed trannys mid year of 01. As for the T4 Im not sure.

94408stang -> RE: Gen. TECH: Manual transmissions, T5, T45, 3650, T56 ETC..... (4/11/2006 2:16:17 PM)

How long do you think a T-5 will stand up to 500hp?
