Tranny's hold up to pretty much anything, Just depends how you run them. We all know if you got the power use it! This restricts tranny life. I had a 6-speed in my 91 w/347 stroker trick flow heads, and Paxton S/C 12psi and ran high 11.00's on street tires. CENTERFORCE DUAL FRICTION. AWESOME!! So smooth. I re-calibrated the transmission with different gears and worked with the rear to achieve a top speed of 145mph in sixth gear. This was plenty of top speed and it gave me the flexiblity to use sixth gear on the highway @65mph and still have enough nut to pass a car without downshifting. I seriously reccomend having stuff like this done by proffessionals, because it took me a while to put the set-up together. 3 tries to be specific. Either 2nd was too close to 3rd or 5th was to far from 6, then 1st was too freakin low to even bother, I could have towed a house with first. Althoug it was fun when I put on slicks, I was poppin 3 foot wheelies with 1/2 throttle. But it worked it the end. By the way I ran 10.06@123mph in 4th gear never let off the gas since may car could handle 8,000 rpm power maxed at 7100rpm
does anyone know how to get the manual gear driven speed o t 45 to work in a newer model t 45 that has a digital speed o. is this a simple fix . my cobra has a digital and the t 45 i bought has a manual speed control.
I have a t-56 in my 91 Gt. It came with 3:55 gears and i swapped them for 4:10's and that trans and gear combo rocks! I still have plenty of top end and major power through 4th gear. Every shift the car is in the powerband. Only problem is at the track i run nitrous and i cant hook even with mickey et's through the 8th mile.
i did the aod to t-5 swapto my 86gt but on the wire harness all i could get from donor car (89gt) was the three plugs under car and about 1 1/2 ft of slack so i have no end to plug into main harness where my aod one was any idea how to work this out i need backup lights and neutral start and my speedodmeter ???????//
i believe a t56 has closer ratio's, but yes my 6th gear is pretty useless to me considering the highest speed limit around me is 50mph :-/ i need to be going atlest 60 but i like to hold off to 65-70mph anyways, cant beat it if im traveling tho, it sits around 2100-2200rpm @ 80mph and my mpg's are between 26-28 in 6th at those speeds. i drive a camaro btw w/ 3.73's ;) but if you've got a t56 and ever need work done i highly suggest these guys www.t56rebuilds.com first i looked around locally for a good tranny shop, some didnt want to touch it at all and just wanted me to drop $3200 for a new tranny.. other shops told me incorrect stuff like i dont have a reverse synchro lol so i took it out myself and got it rebuilt and built up for $1600(reverse, 1-2, 3-4 & 5-6 sliders, billit keys, steel 3-4 fork, bronze 1-2 &3-4 fork pads, carbon fiber synchro rings, plus i needed new reverse, 2nd & 6th gears other than that it would of been $1200 all together)
I know its going to cost a lot...but how much money/headahce am I looking at to swap out an automatic transmission in a 2003GT for a T-56 six speed. Is it impossible?

Just had it done in my 02 GT. I purchased the T3650 kit from MPS Auto salvage. www.mpsautosalvage.com for $2499. This kit cost another $188 in shipping costs. It is relatively complete. I needed a Steeda Tri shifter, Steeda knob and a Spec Stage 2 Hybrid Clutch also a connector harnesses and 3.5 quarts of royal purple tranny synthetic fluid. The conversion worked well. The difficulity was installing the peddle box -- you'll need two people. Another problem was the hump. The hump in an automatic GT is higher than the humb in the 5 speed GT. So you will have to modify the plastic face plate to fit. But it can be done. Lastly, you will have to match your keys but this can be circumvented if your computer guy is real good. I got lucky and didn't need to get a new computer and major tune, I only needed a reflash and a few pulls on dyno.
Prior to the sway, my 02 made 458 to the wheels. The swap freed up 22 hp. But I lost torque up front.
did you ever fix the chattering problem. im having that problem too. the clutch was replaced a while ago but it chatters and sometimes doesnt disengage. i heard i was supposed to bleed the clutch or something to that effect. if anyone knows of this or know how to do this they should help me out . thanks mike lewis
Hey guys whats up. I just bought a 1995 Mustang Gt with a factory five speed clutch. Basicly the cluth and shifter are 12 years old. My question is.... what should I get to replace these keeping in mind a low price and a smooth shift afterwards? Thanks...
Greetings, I'm new top the forum and recently got a '92 convertible. It looks like it was converted from auto to 5 speed at some time in its past. Problem I am having is it pops out of reverse. The stops on the Steeda shifter are adjusted properly. What is the usual cause and how much grief is this to repair this myself. I have rebuilt motors and done mechanical and body repairs. Have restored 5 cars so I'm not afraid to tackle this job. Just curious how difficult it is or what special tools may be needed. Any recommended parts vendors?

sounds like maybe a bent shift fork or a bad synchro... it could be quite a challange without a press...

I'm mechanically retarded and I own a 2004 Mustang GT. First, can someone tell me what transmission I have. Second, I was told my second gear synchro is bad and it sounds like the third gear is doing the same thing. I was told the kit to fix this costs $1700. Are there any cheaper alternatives or should I fork out the money. Keep in mind I will be paying for all the work to be done.
