Default "performance" automatic shifter

i went to a car show the other day and peeked inside a drag racing car. It had what i like to believe is a "performance" automatic shifter. It looked tricked out. Why would someone have this over the stock unit? Here is what i am talking about---->shifter

many features, really. like reverse lockout (cant shift into reverse without purposely doin it. cant hit reverse accidentally) and a better ratcheting action. im gettin one for the stang

Looks cool, maybe I'll get one for my stang to spice it up a bit.
