Bizarre emissions equipment question
This is probably the first time this has ever been asked...the '88 Hatch I'm looking at has had of the pollution control equipment removed, no cats, smog pump, EGR. What I'm wondering is 1) what other pollution equipment am I missing besides what I listed, and 2) how hard would it be to replace it all.
Firstly, I'm concerned about passing the emissions test, obviously. The current owner says that unplugging something on the engine (he didn't specify, but said he'd have the test down for me) would screw the test reading and make it pass, what would do that? Secondly, I'm not really that interested in having a vehicle that is belching un-scrubbed exhaust into the air, it's already smoggy enough here as it is. I'm not that concerned about performance, I just want to car for cruising.
Any ideas?
