i was coming home from work today, and this kid in a maxima pulls up and revs at me. his car wasnt too overdone, but it had a dual exhaust, and it had a sweet purr to it. im not someone who races particularly often, but i enjoy a romp every once in a while. my car is a bone stock 200 v6. i take it for what it is... a hot looking car with the same engine that comes a taurus. lol. i drag this kid from a start, and spanked him by about a half a carlength by about 85. at about 60, i downshifted and smoked him. he goes to turn off, and i wave out the window and he waves back and flashes his brights at me, he was a cool cat, however this completely riced out, flat black painted, old broken down crx pulls up and revs his weedwacker sounding engine at me at the next light. im still grinning like an idiot from the excitement a few secs befpore, so i cant resist to go once more. this kid is redlining his engine revving at me, so i smoke my tires next to him, he had crank windows, so he got a carful of my rear rubber. i never do stuff like that, but i had to get it out of my system. we went on green, and i smoked him off the line by at least a car and a half, i kinda take it easy shifting up to fifth, and he catches up, and at this point were cruisn goin about 110, and my car conks out at about, so before then i slow down, and he follows, then i smile, take off from 3rd, smoke him again and turn at the next light. i would like to say that that was the first time ive ever raced going that fast in this car before everyone jumps all over me... but i had to share... and sorry about the long post. lol

wow guys, thanks for the the positi8ve feedback, lol. look, how often do i post in the racing forum saying how i always beat all kindsa people in my nasty v6, or post in the racing sectoin ingeneral... ever? v6's arent allowed to have fun? listen, v8s may be able to pick battles with substantial cars, but my humble 6banger isnt something i really race, so i figured id post.
What year maxima was it? From what i know the 00+ models have 255hp and the ones that just came out have i think like 285hp. So i would think you beat a 90's model. Cause even tho the '00+ models are heavy, they still carry a good amount of torque to beat a v6 stang.

i knew that the maxima wasnt new, otherwise, i would have assumed that the guy missed a gear, like first, lol. i know my car has about the same horse as around that year maxima, but also, if they have a 3.0, and i have a 3.8, does that make a big difference if the horsepower is even?... or even with a v8, like a 4.6 vs basically the same engine, but 5.0 .

displacement comes into play after you consider valves per cylinder, head design, intake, exhaust , etc. the nissan motor is a 4 valve dohc since 94 i believe, maybe earlier than that.. nissan builds a helluva motor. i have seen 03 altimas clicking high 13's with a five speed with nismo intake. ford v-8's and v-6's need intake and exhaust to wake up...

The Mustang has a 3.8 with 190 hp 210 ft lbs torque or so and a 5 sp man/4 sp auto designed to get up and go. The 3.0 Taurus has like 170 hp and a 4 sp auto geared to haul people with good gas mileage. You can't compare the two. The 4.6L SOHC motor is different from the 5.0 as the 5.0 is a pushrod engine (isn't it?) The 5.0 was old technology while the 4.6 is newer and has a lot more potential. But that doesn't mean that you can't build one hell of a 5.0 Motor...

The 3.8 has been used in previous model Taurus, also in minivans too. Never did any testing between the 3.0 and the 3.8, but I know the duratec 3.0 would spank the 3.8.
