Did know if you guys have seen this or not so I just wanted to share it with you. So what do you all thing, will the Dodge Challenger be able to compete with the mustang? Or will it fall to the waste side like all that have tried to compete?
Dodge preparing Challenger's return
Staff Report 13 June 2005
The Chrysler Group may place another model on the LX platform, this time a two door coupe. The goal for the Chrysler Group is to make a viable competitor to Ford's Mustang.
Planned to appear in 2009, the Dodge Challenger will be a 2010 model, and DCX hopes there will be enough demand to sell up to 70,000 vehicles per year.
By the time 2010 comes around the '05 mustang model will be a solid player for the likes of the Challenger. Too bad that Dodge will be taking 5(+-) more years to be able to compete with the new Mustang. That tells me that Ford is doing something right.
Seriously. It takes 5 years to make a car that can compete? Yeah, I'd say that's definitely a sign that the mustang is one hell of a car.
I think a lot of companies probably feel the pressure of the popularity of the new stang though, you can't watch tv or flip through a magazine without seeing one in a contest or on a tv show.
The competition was killed-off very thoroughly by the Mustang. Anything that wants to compete in that market segment now better be sportn a big pair of bull b***s or it will die too. The Mustang proves the $$$$ are still waiting in line for a good product. But it would be nice to have something other than imports to trash. I never liked the Camaro's, but I do miss the competiion.

Some of you guys act like the 05 Stang was the first retro car to come out. Don't forget the Beetle and the PT Cruiser (both of which sold very well) then there is/was the T-bird (over priced and under powered) the Prowler (WAY underpowered). Ford did a great thing with the 05 but I bet the retro trend either dies or becomes overly done by 2010. If the Challenger does make a come back, it will need to be a 350+hp 2 door rear drive coupe and convertible to be a real player, Diamler really messed up with Charger, they would have been better off just making up a new name, because the Mopar loyalists will not buy a 4 door Charger.

As a mopar guy the 2010 Challenger takes 5 years to be made because Dodge doesn't want to compete with Ford.. They want to destroy ford... I can see it now... 440 HP STOCK with a 6 speed tranny old school style and ready to kick some ass

haha yeah.. now compete that with the 05 yes 05 not 10 the 05 saleen extreme.. 500 hp stock, and by 2010 im sure the saleens and regualr mustangs will be even more powerful then now, if dodge is trying to "destroy" a car thats an 05 model with there 2010 model.. theres something wrong with them because the mustangs are only become better and better then ever before
By the time 2010 comes around with the way gas is now, the challenger is going to have a 4 cyl, or v6 in it. Like it or not it seems the HP wars are coming to an end.

By that time Ford too will be sporting 400-450hp as an option with a 5 or 6 speed manual or auto tranny. Not to mention I don't think Challenger will be an everybody car, like the Shelby 500 right now.

i am hoping that dodge would not price the challenger as an elite car like the shelby because that would mean either killing the viper projects, or competing with themselves. which they wouldnt do....

err... with the exception of a few cars like the SN95s, Saleen S7 and Viper SRT10, it takes 5+ years to develop a car. Taking that long is basically normal.

I agree... Apparently SVT99 here hasn't heard about the new Z06, or the SRT10, or perhaps the even the 03-04 Cobra.
Let's not forget the new Accord even, with the hybrid V6 that makes upwards of 255 hp & 232 ft lbs... while still managing 29city/37hwy mpg.

I thought the GTO was stupid when it first came out. Yeah it looks good but its nothing like the original GOAT. Its like some car from austraila or something that GM just bought. At least FORD comes up withtheir own stuff
