Okay, in effort to be more unique, and to save money, as well as look more old muscle car-like, i am looking for a set up that involves 15" wheels on my 99GT, at stock height, (where it is likely to stay)
Does ANYONE have a similar set up to this? I am hoping for either someone who has this already, or knows enough about old tire ratings and sizes.. namely 15x7/8/10/12.
I want to know what they would compare to with modern numbers, ie: 275 & 315's ( i was already told to go with a 26" tire to prevent from needing to recal the speedo)
here is what im looking at Back:
Cragar 08/61 Series S/S Wheel Size: 15'' x 10'' Bolt Circle: 5 x 4-1/2'' Rear Spacing: 4-1/4'' OR Cragar 08/61 Series S/S Wheel Size: 15'' x 12'' Bolt Circle: 5 x 4-1/2'' Rear Spacing: 4-1/2''
Front:
Cragar 08/61 Series S/S Wheel Size: 15'' x 7'' Bolt Circle: 5 x 4-1/2'' Rear Spacing: 4-1/8'' OR Cragar 08/61 Series S/S Wheel Size: 15'' x 8'' Bolt Circle: 5 x 4-1/2'' Rear Spacing: 4-1/4''

IMO it will look terrible but if you like it thats all that matters. You might also want to double check that the rim will clear the brake caliper, there is a good chance it will hit.

I like the way that the fat tire looks on newer (and older cars)
like the pic of code03's wifes car... the fatter tire on a normal looking mustang
but back on course,, did you mean that the wheel, since only a 15" , 'could' have trouble clearing the caliper, as in it woudl rub the inside of the rim?
i thnk thats what you mean is it not? thanks

I think it will look great, and may do something similar. I've been thinking the old slot style aluminums, Torque Thrust II's or Cragar SS/SS II's with RWL BF Radial T/A's...
Look in the 4.6L forum at code3Gt's 2 cars...
Oh, and yes, you definately need to make sure they will clear your brakes...

Yes that is what I meant. I like a 15 inch on a car with slicks and skinnys, but to each his own.
they arent tiny, stock are 17...lol... well, it depends on your definition suppose
15's are what came on everything old.. which is what i like
I already pm'd back and forth a bunch with code03gt, and i dont think he said anything about having trouble clearing the breaks and such. I might ask him if he doesnt pop in here on his own
so jd, assuming that all fits around the breaks and all,, is there any way other than going out and measuring my current tires, to be able to tell how big of tires i woudl need for each size of rim, wheter i go 7 or 8 in front, and 10 or 12 in back?

Real easy. Just sit down with your calculator and figure the stock size, and each tire you're thinking about...
245/45/17 is stock... 245 is the tread width in mm, 45 is the sidewall height as a percentage of the tread width, and 17 is the wheel diameter in inches... so, to figure overall outer diameter of the stockers, it would just be...
245mm*.45*2 (=220.5mm) + 17"*25.4 (=431.8mm) = 652.3mm so, just find a tire with a close OD...
I would go with the Torque thrust 2 with some BFGoodrich radial T/A with the white letters facing out, for the muscle car look. I think it could look cool. What really sets that look off is lowering it 1.5"-2". Good luck and let us see the pics. At least your not a sheep!
and they look awesome, but those are on a fox. 15s are tiny on a 99
thats the idea....
if you havent looked at code03's wifes car yet,, go do it in his 4.6 topic, pics of mrs gt or something liek that,,
those look really good in the back, with the thick tires, but i think i want my front ones to be a bit thicker too, not skinnies like on a drag car or anythign like that
if anyone has any good pictures of this kind of set up on a 99-04 GT, that would be nice.. thanks

I just checkek out the cars and while it does look great, I personally feel it is the slicks and skinnies look that makes it look good, plus she has Prostars not Cragers. If it were me going for an old school look I do the Torque Thrusts. Chrome Cragers just don't look right on a new Stang to me, but it's you that needs to like it. As far as a 10 inch rim goes I think you will fine just get the correct back spacing so the wheels don't stick out too much.

JD the cragers look pretty sweet on a mustang; to find out of they'd fit or not I put the rim (minus tire) on the car and it looked pretty decent. Considering my stock rims (the deluxe premium whatever package) are crager knockoffs anyway, the real cragers are the same except chrome, slightly more deep dish, and rather than a mustang logo in the center it says "Crager SS".
Pretty much, the cragers are shinier..

I know very well what they look like, I had a set on one of my 69 Dodges and they looked good too, but I just don't like a rim that small or of that design on a new Stang. Tes the Bullets are similar but wheel lip and inner diameter is different. NOw have you seen the new version of the Crager SS? Those would look cool a newer Stang
eeeewwwwww cragar ss on anything eeewwwww! 15s are out man!I also think bullit rims are the ugliest rims made but to each his own. I know you could care less what I think,But you might be the laughing stock of the mustang world

laughing stock? hmm, maybe i consused a people in here, without intention
i do like the cragers, however i am not SET on them, however i do very much like the old school 15inch wheel surronded by lots of rubber look from the late 60's and real early 70's
the tire on chrome rim look from code03gt's wifes car is the look i want,, regardless of whether it is cragers or not..
but we'll see, im sure it wont be as bad as a couple of you think
ps. im gonna put some old tires of my dads on my car tongiht to see if 15's fit w/o problesm i'll put those up and you can let me know what you think about the appearance
