Default Lifters making noise?

So if you've ever heard an old bronco or a big old 80s caddy go buy you you'll know what I'm talking about.

RPMs really make no difference, but the noise is especially present say at about 50mph in 5th. When I press on the pedal, I hear a ticking noise, like lifters or something. Just a rapid ticking noise, similar to that of the cars described earlier. Its definately in the internals of the engine, not sure exactly which piece. Any ideas? I really dont know how to describe it better, just a really rapid ticking noise that goes away over 3k revs, or I just can't hear it past then.
