Mass Airflow Sensor Damage?
Hi, I'm new to the forum. I need help if there are any knowledgable Munstang people here. I have a 1998 6 cylinder Mustang that I had Kwik Kar replace an Air Filter for me about 15,000 miles ago. I took it in for repairs to a buddy of mine that is a lead technician at a Ford Dealership and he checked the Air filter while he was doing things. The filter was kind of contorted and you could see it lost its seal and there was a bit of debri in the Mass Airflow Sensor chamber behind the screen. He told me right then that the Mass Airflow Sensor would have to be replaced because the heating elements (?) inside are covered with dust. He said if we see debri in that screen it means there was no seal on the air filter because it was improperly installed or the wrong one and dust and debri has entered into that chamber most certainly coating the elements with fine dust.
So, I took my car back to Kwik Kar who told me that I was wrong and simply took out the mass airflow unit thing and blew it out with compressed air. He said the only problem I'll see is if the little wires break and that would cause my car not to start at all. However, my car has been loosing gas mileage and I notice a lack of power which is what my lead technician friend says is the root cause of it.
Anyone have any opinions?
