Use 87 octane if your tune is stock, and use any brand name quality gas ( BP, Texaco, Mobil, Sunoco, etc.) If you get a flash tuner you can decide whether you want to run 93, 91, 87 octane by adjusting the timing. For stock you will be better off with quality 87.

What do you know about that? (not sarcastic, i just want to learn more) I've heard that with basically any car with EFI, and definitely new cars, the engine automatically adjusts the ignition timing to the earliest possible it can be without causing detonation (by using the knock sensor). So, if you have higher octane in there, wouldn't your car just have a slightly earlier spark as well as a lower chance of pre-ignition? And i believe earlier spark means more power and lower exhaust temperatures. Teach me, i need to know more!

your car does NOT know that you've got 91 or 92 octane gas in it!
If you're stock, continue to use major brand gas, 87 octane. Unless you have an extra 20-30 cents pergallon to waste!

like dave said, brand name gas at that level of octaine is good but there is one brand i would NEVER put in it and that is Texico, i used to pump at one of thier stations a few years ago and they water down thier gasoline, so you literaly never know how much your getting and it burns 5X faster then mobil, sunoco, irving......plus it can dammage your fuel compoenents......just a word of advise
Jay, was that the station doing that or the Texaco corporation? That just sounds crazy to me. Dosn't Consumer Reports or any other private consumer rights organizations test things like that?

Since petroleum and water do not mix I would be curious as to what you mean by "water down".

I can say this much. When I lived in Texas, and there would be a flood to the south in the Corpus Christi area, they would pump out the gas and bring it up north to Dallas area. The gas will ‘Float’ to the top of the water, but some diffusion occurs and the gas isn’t the same quality as gas that hasn’t been tainted. Especially since the water can carry pollutants and other crap that WILL diffuse into gasoline.
I’d suggest finding a ‘hi-volume’ vendor (someone on a corner or someone that has high traffic) because odds are they are not trying to stretch out their gas and turnover is enough to keep stock fresh.
