Ticking is usually linked to lifters, but a 2002 needing new ones???

my cobra is loud as soon as i start it, but as soon as the oil flows it shuts up.
does yours do it until it gets warm or just for 5 seconds or so?, i know you said warmed up, but just checking.
how many miles on it?

The two painful times my gt had a ticking or chattering noise, it ended up real bad. First it ended up being a timing chain tensioner that had failed (1200 miles from home). I had to get new heads. The second I thought was a lifter, but upon further investigation it was a rod knocking. I am not saying that is what it is, but just warning you that MAY be what it is. Hope its nothing serious.

Probably a lifter. I would have it checked for sure. Usually an injector is going to show other signs like running like poo. Plus its not going to go away when warmed up.

The car has 68000 miles on it, I bought it with 50 and it ticked. It will tick for a minute or so, I am not car stupid which is why this is pissing me off do you think it could be the oil pump? i run 5-20 fully synthetic oil. i change it every 4000 miles, my problem might be that whoever had it before me switched to regular oil and screwed things up for me. I dunno. I hate to bring it to ford but i guess thats my only option, i just put a superchip in my car about 3 weeks ago and friday was going to be my first time running the car on a strip, what do u guys think... run it, or wait til it is checked out..

Switching from regular oil to synthetic would not screw your car up and is nothing buy a myth.

It does sound like a lifter. I'm not a big fan of the water thin 5w-20 that is recommended by Ford and Honda on some of their new engines. It isn't going to fix the problem but using a heavier oil may help for a little while. Hydraulic lifters can get gummed up and start sticking from lack of properly scheduled oil changes. Take off the oil cap and see if you can tell if the engine looks dirtier than it should. If so, try running some sort of cleaner in it...some use Marvel Mystery Oil but there are other products. Success is likely limited though.
