Default '05 Suspension clunking?

I'll be taking my car into the dealer to fix the shifter problem (BTW thanks for all the tech posts - I feel better equipped to talk to the service dept.). I have a clunking noise from the passenger side when rolling over even the slightest bump. It sounds like something is loose in the suspension.

Any idea what it might be? Anything I could check for before I take it in?

PS. I'll be attempting the exhaust fix this afternoon - wish me luck, it's been awhile since I've tinkered on cars.

I hear noises from my rear suspension every now and again - but not too often. Almost like a rubbing noise or something. But I've looked underneath and nothing has scrape marks on it, so I figure it is suspension pieces rubbing against other pieces. Its primarily when turning and hitting a bump, so I've kind of written it off as a normal sound related to the Panhard rod or something back there. I'm not a suspension guy by any means, so if any of you think this is something wrong, or if you find out anything Scooter I'd be curious to learn.

It's a pretty significant clunking noise. My '96 Explorer made a similar sound when it had a broken bolt in the suspension. I hope it isn't that - the roads around here stink.

The dealer just called to let me know that the service dept. will be calling me tomorrow (oh, how I loathe those words - you can bet I'll be the one calling them) to schedule a time. It seems one of the two suspension guys is on vacation.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

BTW - nice ride!!

sowaxeman, thanks again for all your tech posts and your forum ediquitte. It's appreciated.

Yeah, mine clunks also. Especially at low speed bumps. I've looked but haven't found the source yet. Please post and let me know what the service guys say. Beautiful car, I knew the Sonic Blue would be sweet. Makes me second guess my decision for the mineral grey.

Yea I have the same problem...I took it once to get fixed but unfortunately the problem has come back again. When I got it fixed the first time the dealer said it was a worn out link in the stabilizer bar. But the noise is back so I doubt that coulda been it. My car is going to dealer again tom. I wil let you guys know wats up.

Are your 'clunks' coming from a particular side?

On a different note - I did the exhaust fix. It actually was simple (I think I'll tackle an enegine rebuild next). I did notice more response in lower RPMs although there still is a noticable demarcation at 2900 rpm where it just seems to open up and rip. I figure the freer exhaust smoothed it out a little but why the noticable power jump at 2900+ in the first place?

I had the same clunk in the left rear. It turns out it was the exhaust banging. The dealer moved it a bit and no more clunk. The dealer has also told me that he just got the exhaust rattle repair kit overnighted and I am going down hopefully today to have it installed. I will let everyone know how it works out.

Mine is most notable when the front right goes over a bump. I was in a parking garage that had partial speed bumps that I could take with one wheel or the other. The clunk was the right front and not the rear. I'm going to take the front wheel off to see if there are any rub marks.
