Yea, there have been plenty of people on another forum board that have done it. Some are even using a factory Ford GT start button for their project.

Some people are like Slinkies. They're really good for nothing. But they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

99saleen351r...

For those moments when you stall your car trying to beat that GTO, and your in a turn, and don't want to reach down and use your key to re-start the car. You just reach over and pop the button!

I think it would be funny to hook a tazer onto the passenger seat.. then tell the passenger NOT to touch the engine start button under any circumstance!

Welp, I've ordered my button. It's a whole kit actually with supposedly vehicle specific instructions. I paid a bit more than what everyone else is paying up front, but I don't have to go buy any extra parts. Total was $71 shipped.

Two ideas.

If you can find an inexpensive chip/sensor with a range of 2 yards that can enable, disable a switch, This might be a decent option. You could, in theory, stick the entire cylinder/key unit behind the dash, turn it into the run posisition, and then stick this switch in to open or close depending on whether the chip is near by. This has the nice benefit of being able to raise/lower the windows/vert top whenever you're near by. May even impress a few people when the radio pops on as you sit in the car. All you have to do to start is hit the start engine button.

The second idea is similar but doesn't require any extra hardware, just a decent amount of modification to what you've got. Remove the transponder from you key and shove it into the case of your fob next to a piece of metal that slighly protrudes from the bottom. Now relocate your key cylinder inside of your dash with just a fob sized opening visible. Cut the key off at the hilt in the run position and then shave down the plastic around it. You'd want the metal out of your modified fob to make contact to the hilt of the original key. You stick the fob in the dash and suddenly the radio/power accessories are active. Now just hit your start engine switch and your off. I've seen the fob/only no-key system in a new prius.

about the remote start...i think it depends on where you live whether the person you go to will put it in or not. some states might have laws about that.

but for the right price...

Would rolling your car down the hill and popping the clutch in the same category as a start switch? if so then i guess I'm already in the cool zone.....

you silly billys...

a push button start is a HUGE mod that effects the performance of your car

for example, everytime you crank your engine, its never perfect, and

puts strain on ur engine and gears.....may not be much but its stain nun the less

with a push button, its starts perfectly everytime!

no strain, just gain!

Well, I finally installed my start button today. It took me a good four hours. Not because it was hard, but because I was trying to work off two sets of instructions and it was a *itch trying to find someplace to mount the relay so it won't rattle when I'm driving. I hope I mounted it in a good spot. I haven't road tested it yet.

Not to be boastful, but I think I did the best installation that I've seen yet! In all the pictures I see, the button is mounted crooked in the hole. I went through great pains to make sure I had it centered properly. I didn't widen the hole like everyone says you have to do. You don't. I just made 7 appropriately placed and sized notches and the thing looks perfect!

I'd give more detail, but I have to get to the emergency room. I just popped my shoulder out of the socket from patting myself on the back! Only one bad thing happened. I made a little scar on the face of my A/C controls when I accidently laid the panel on top of the relay.

Oh yeah, for those who are thinking about doing it, the cigarette ligher socket comes out kicking and screaming the whole way!! It took me more time to take that thing out and do the notches than anything else. And there's a little gray lever looking thing on the right side plug for the A/C controls that you have to flip up in order to pull the plug out.

I'll post pictures of my install and my Xenon headlights soon!

Later!

<--Notice how good the button looks accented against the crimson interior. And you can just make out the red stitching in my new, 4-panel shift boot.

PLEASE don't revive dead threads. Especially if you don't have anything to say. This thread is about six months old.

Hate to bring up old threads, but does the push button work for an 06 also? Where's the best place to pick one of these things up from? I saw someone mentioning the use of an actual Ford GT part. Anyone have that done?
