What do you all put on your convertible tops? I've heard you can use baby oil and such, but I was wondering what Mustang owners do.

I just started using the 303 Vinyl Convertible Top Kit. It made a big difference after I was done cleaning and (especially) protecting. The top just looks more vibrant now.

I assume you have the "vinyl" GT convertible top and not the "canvas" Cobra convertible top. Canvas is a whole other animal to take care of. In the case of Cobra convertibles, I might even talk to a Mercedes dealer to see what they recommend. Use the wrong product just once and your top could end up ruined. The vinyl tops are easy. There is a convertible top cleaner available as mentioned above. It works well for cleaning but you want protection after the fact. I have found one such very good product that works wonders and lasts for a long time. Here is a link: http://www.autobarn.net/menxtgetepr.html

And...a whole line of other convertible products: http://www.autogeek.net/vicotopmapr.html

Good luck!

I was at a shop today about a seat problem and they also do convertible tops amoung other things. She told me every 4-5 months to put vasoline on the weatherstrips that surround the windows to keep them in shape and supple and doing their job. Said to lift the top a bit, put the vasoline on and wait awhile then wipe off the excess vasoline Anyone every heard of doing this?
Told me to never use Armor All for the convert top and that my top is vinyl (05 v6). To never never put the car in a automatic wash as those side sprays will get inside the weatherstrips and not good for the convert top either.

Sounds like good advice to me. I would always take the advice of a professional.

Baby oil? That's a new one. Wouldn't dirt stick to it?

When I get mine done I am going to call the manufacturer and see what they have to say. They are too expensive to mess up.

Here we go again about the Armour All doom and gloom, all I can say is that I have a 89 GT rag, that is a daily summer driver, let me repeat 1989, that makes the car 16 years old. It still has the Original top, repeat Original top. the only product I ever used on it is Armour All, every time I hear the fame "never use armour all "horror stories I just laugh and and put another coat on

Im assuming its Vinyl unless the original owner replaced it with a canvas top. Whats the difference in feel of the 2? The owner before me said it had a water resistant coating on it, so I dunno. This is the first convertible I have owned.

I used RaggTop on my convertible today. Used a bottle of Ragg Top cleaner then the bottle of Ragg Top UV protectant. Well the protectant oversprayed onto the windows and paint. That was hard to get off! Next time I'm putting some of it on a rag and wiping it on and then wiping with a dry towel. It did make the black look better. It was looking a bit faded after I washed the car today so decided to use the stuff for the first time. I was surprised to see the fading already and only having the car a couple of months. Only thing I can figure is that there was a protectant on it to begin with and it had washed off in about 5 car washings or the fact hubby has it out in the hot sun all day when he takes it to work.

Was told by the dealer recon guy, not to use anything on it, just keep the top clean with hot soapy water if needed and just let it be, he said that once you start putting junk on it... is when things can get ugly. i'm not sure if i agree, its a '05 convertable... I think i'm going to follow his advice for a few years and see how it looks... he said the newer tops should last and look the same for 10 years no problem. ?
