why not go with a 5.0 out of a newer stang? welcome.  you would have to change the mounts.

The reason I don't go with anything newer is, thats what I have lying around, limited funds, and mom's on my back to get rid of the car the 302 is in. I also have a 1983 mercury capri with a 3.8L in it. To many pokers in the fire and not enough time.

Nothing wrong with an older 302. There are a buttload of carb'd 302's that will hand the EFI guys their ass on a silver platter. Plus you get the added advantage of being able to super-tune your fuel delivery the old-fashioned way, without computers. Simplicity at it's finest.
