HI Folks, first time on this site. It looks like a very active one. I have a couple questions for anyone that can help. I have a 1965 Mustang GT. I have had it for 25 years. This car which when I bought it was a blue turquoise color..(which almost made me not buy the car). My love was my 1966 Emberglow Mustang I had when I was a kid. Well we painted it Emberglow 24 years ago. Now all these years later we are completely restoring the car. It was a California car so it is really nice shape. Almost no rust. I think he found several holes the size of a pencil eraser.

I am dealing with still not painting it the orginial color as I really just do not like it. The thought of putting all this money in the car and painting it that color ..ewww.. But I do have some questions.

The engine compartment..? Should it be painted black or the same color as the car. Also the under carrage.. What color should I have that painted.

I know "why would you worry about that when you are changing the color of the car". Nuts... I guess, but wanted to know what the color should be, then I will make the decision on what to do.

I have also had motor rebuilt, new windshield, interior and chrome. It will be with me till the end I hope. Anyway thanks for any info and really glad I ran on to this great site. Thanks,

I am looking for a 65 as we speak.  i would paint it what ever color that you would like but do the undercarriage and under the hood the same color.  i think that these cars look great like that.  Welcome to the forum.

Considering most of the time you won't be seeing the undercarriage of the car, you might want to consider using a rubberized undercoating, which will protect the metal and reduce road noise a lot. If it's a hot rod road noise isn't an issue, but if you want a really nice resto, something you can cruise in, you might think about it. As far as the engine compartment goes, it looks really super clean when it's painted the same color as the car, especially with a lot of chrome dress-up on the engine. It all comes down to what you want though.
