Hello to all. I am a noob here and I have some cars to start working on. My grandfather collected mustangs before he died in 84 of cancer. Now all his cars are sitting in a building not getting worked on. I am starting to get things around to pick up where he left off but I am new to all this stuff. I have rebuilt enginges back in hs (10 yrs ago.) and I have lifted off road trucks/jeeps but never done any restoration type work before.
How does one no where to start.
What advice do you have as to how to get the motors running and cars moving again after being stored for 20 yrs.
They are all in a dry building and have been protected from the elements. The building has insulation.
Some of the cars have 1 locked wheel( they won't turn) Is there a good method to remove the break drum that is locked up?
Some of these cars a going to be for sale, to raise money for fixing up the others.
Any advice would be great.

Wow! That's quite a collection. ALL of the fluids need to be drained and replaced with fresh fluid. That includes the gas, oil and radiator/block. You have a lot of work to do. Just take one car at a time, and clean them up inside and out. Sell them one at a time so it doesn't seem like you are a used car dealer. Post the for sale here on the MF. As far as the locked brakes, the emergency brake was probably applied when they were stored and the shoes are "welded" to the drums. Take the emergency brake handle and put it down so that it is no longer applied. Take the drums off by tapping on them with a hammer and jiggling them back and forth. Good luck with them.
After talking with my Father and grandmother this weekend it sounds like we (at this time at least) are not going to be selling any of the convertables. As for the fluids. All fluids were drained when stored except the oil in the cars.
I have tried the parking breaks. ?? I am going to look into the wheel issue hopefully this week.
Shoud there be any thing I should worry about with trying to get these running agian. The motors have not been run is quite some time. Now I realize I need to change the spark plug wires and coolant hoses and any rubber hoses on the cars 1st. I just didn't know if like the rings would be brittle or somthing like that? Any sudgestions.
An engine CAN seize up after all that time. Try taking out the spark plugs, and turn the engine over by either putting it in gear and rocking it back and forth to see if the fan blade turns, or use a socket on the pulley at the end of the crank in front, and see if you can turn it over by turning clockwise. If it won't budge, then the rings are stuck to the cylinder wall.
The car I was going to get running I just sold last night. Cool now I have some money to put into one of the other....it's also time to put another one out by the road.....hmmmm I think this time I will put a model A out.
I would start checking prices on ebay to see the current prices of cars before you start selling them. Also do some research on the cars before you sell them. It would be unfortunate to sell a rare car for a low price, only to discover it was worth several times the price.
