This is my first post on the forum as I am a new owner. My sister and I own a machine shop and we just won a 2005 Mustang, yes won. It was a raffle with 300 tickets at $100. We bought the last two they had.

Anyway, has anyone changed the door speakers in the base model with the 4 speaker setup? I put an Eclipse CD5444 head unit in last week and am now looking into new speakers. I guess I am trying to decide on 5 x 7 coaxials or going with 5 1/4 components. Over time, I will have new speakers, a single 5 channel amp or a pair of amps and a sub. Probably in the Scosche custom enclosure. Any advice or opinions? Thanks.

Welcome to the forum! You are going to love your new Mustang. That said, what you are going to find here is that 90% of the posters in this area are going to tell you that you are spending good money on an audio upgrade when you could be adding CAI, or a new exhaust setup or some other performance or appearance upgrade. You will find some folks complaining about the Shaker (aka Skipper) 500 or 1000's but a new head unit is not going to make your new Mustang run better or even look better. It's all about those two areas on here in the 2005 section most of the time. I suggest you try the "Audio/Visual Electronics" section of the forum for a better chance at a helpful answer. Once again, welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new Mustang. Come back soon. There is a plethora of good information on the forum and some really nice people. Enjoy!

Thanks for the honesty. I kinda thought that myself. It does seem to be a more performance oriented crowd and I am not into that part of it that much. I will try the a/v section.

I'm sure you will find what you need in that section. Keep coming back. You will find these folks to be very helpful once you start having gas tank and some other issues you will most likely run across in your first 1,000 miles. Welcome again and enjoy your new Mustang.

Here is my setup. I like it :) If I had to do it over again I would not have gotten the rear coaxials. Quality is fine, just keep them faded out because the front sound stage is so good.

Hate to link out of forum, but these guys are good.

There is a huge discussion about how my system came to be, limitations in the install, etc.
just search for 05 Mustang or 2005 Mustang

Thanks Steven. 12volt seems to have some great info. I ordered a set of Diamond 5 x 7 for now for the front door. I will probably replace them later with a 5 1/4 component set, Diamond Hex most likely and move the 5 x7 into the rear. Does the base model audio have provisions for the 8" door sub or is that a different door panel for the Shaker systems?
