The new GT500 is either quicker or is on par with the C5 Z06 actually. I say on par beccause there have been cases where a real good driver was able to pull off a 3.9 0-60 time as well as a high 11 sec 1/4 using a stock Z06. But around bends, that is a differnet story...Corvette owns

757GT -> RE: car and driver GT500 (7/4/2005 11:10:23 PM)

I think he is talking about the C6 ZO6 and not the C5. Those are magazine times. I would bet money that the Shelby is faster than that. They said the '03 Cobra was 4.9 to 60 and 13.2 1/4. We all know those are faster than that. I sure that the Shelby will be capable of high 11s in actuality.

v8musclecobra -> RE: car and driver GT500 (7/4/2005 11:21:40 PM)

man i love the 03 cobra with a passion. but just when u think ford has pulled off the almighty...this comes out...man o man if i had the beans.

Slick97gt -> RE: car and driver GT500 (7/5/2005 3:13:22 AM)

When I was reading that article, I was checking out the specs and noticed it had an eaton mr112 blower on it. Isn't that eaton a roots style supercharger? I heard it was going to have a twin-screw supercharger. If it comes 500 ponies with that weak eaton, think of what a supercharger swap will do to that 5.4 [;)]

757GT -> RE: car and driver GT500 (7/5/2005 11:15:58 PM)

It does have an eaton roots type. The twin screw was in the concept but in actuality it will have the roots type.

Nor does the price.

Where did you hear/read this? Everything I have heard shows the GT500 will have an Eaton twin screw unit, similar to the Ford GT. I would be amazed if Ford went with a roots over a screw. As a matter of fact, I don't see any way the roots blower will be used. I'm not even sure if Eaton produces a 'roots' type blower anymore. The technology these days for positive displacment blowers is ALL twin screw. The only company I know of who still uses a roots blower on their cars is Roush.

SVT99LEGEND -> RE: car and driver GT500 (7/6/2005 4:12:22 PM)

It's going to be a roots type blower, for more info

blower info

Birdieman4 -> RE: car and driver GT500 (7/6/2005 9:14:38 PM)

I'm sorry, but most of the people commenting are mis-informed. The GT500 is getting a twin screw blower. The casing is by Eaton and the internals are Lysholm. Most of the people commenting don't know what they are talkling about, BTW.

757GT -> RE: car and driver GT500 (7/6/2005 10:55:17 PM)

The lysolm is the blower from the Ford GT. That blower is too expensive and their is not enough of them for the GT500. They are making too many GT500s. The blower in the GT500 is a roots type from Eaton.

ekim -> RE: car and driver GT500 (7/7/2005 7:01:42 AM)

You mentioned that they are going to be making too many GT500's, have they disclosed how many they will be producing?

Perilous -> RE: car and driver GT500 (7/7/2005 2:49:30 PM)

7,000 I believe.

I confirmed that today. The GT500 is getting an Eaton roots. Sorry SVTLegend, I just found out about it today. Apparently, this was recently changed, as Lysholm can't make enough internal parts fast enough. Gosh, that is really too bad. I just lost a lot of respect for Ford for doing it. The roots unit will be less efficient, produce more heat, and won't be as 'pulleyable' as a screw unit. The same thing that happened with the 03-04 cobras sounds like it is going to happen with the GT500; if you want to make big hp, you will need to swap the blower with a real blower. No one is running with roots technology anymore, except Ford (and Roush). It's really too bad, and pretty sad Ford decided to go the roots route. Pretty unimpressive, Ford. Good use of old technology. ...Keep up the good work. If I already had $ down on a new GT500, and I found out about the blower deal, I would be really pissed. Others reading this are probably saying, "it's not that big a deal". Trust me, using a roots blower vs a twin screw is a big deal, especially in the new GT500. The whole powerband changes. If they end up going twin screw for the subsequent year (07), they will be a lot more sought after and be worth more $. My new nickname for the GT500 will be 'Kunta Kinte'.

Birdieman4 -> RE: car and driver GT500 (7/11/2005 11:43:56 AM)

The picture is becoming clearer now. I really believe that ford is trying to save $ on the GT500, and that is the biggest reason they are running with a roots blower. It is really too bad Ford doesn't put a real blower on the car. Once again, shame on Ford.

ekim -> RE: car and driver GT500 (7/11/2005 2:54:43 PM)

That really sucks! Are there no other MFG's that can make a screw for Ford?
