Default New CAI for the V6 (no tune required)

So last wendsday i had a custom tune done by shawn at so cal tuning with my new SCT x2 dynoed out with good numbers and today i was at AFE in corona. We were proto typing a new Cold air kit for the V6! very nice unit. and they say no tune required

anyway i caled SCT because i wanted to remove the tune and datlog the dyno for shawn if he needed to retune after the testing was done. both SCT and shawn said no way without tune. so first couple passes were ok so we unhooked the bat had lunch and came back. stock without tune was 197 RWHP 182 RWtork pretty happy they asked me to run it for about 500 miles and the we will recheck . i asked if we could try out my tune just for the heck of it hp and torque staid about the same but the curve was yeeha adrian noticed a big diff off the line. so we put the tune back to stock for testing. after i left i stopped by to let shawn know and he said not to rev do to lean so we hooked it up to his machine and he was surprised the mix was right on he even said he wanted to add some timing to it. so here is the link ill get pricing and when it will be released i hope next week check out the size of the filter
here is a link to what we did today

Nice going. The more I read on these intakes for the V6 the more confused I get. I'm not sure how it can run without a the engine light coming on, that thing has got to be throwing in a lot more air than the stock box judging by your power gain over stock. My understanding is more air, leaner mix, throws the calibration off, light comes on. Not doubting you, since you ran the test and it is on your car but I'm just confused.[sm=dontgetit.gif]

all i can say is i was surprised too. these guys are no fly by night co. most of them are engineers. they have done plenty of testing on the GT but didnt have a v6 thats why i brought mine in. i mean i was woried when SCT and So cal said i needed to tune it thats why after i left i went to so cal. he put it on his dyno scratched his head and said he was impressed that no tune was needed. he even said when the test period was over he would add some timing to my custom tune to improve it better. when i asked the guys at AFE they said the way they mix the air past the MAF alowes it to pass more air without the velocity that trips the MAF. they showed me the air movment on the tester they had. they move double the air. all i know is it works i am sold. if you want a CAI but dont want a tuner right away this will work. and this is the proto type. the actual unit can only be better.

Tell me if I'm wrong but it looks like rwhp is the same with or with out the tune
but the touque takes a big jump once you add the tune.

Yes...keep us posted. I just can't image adding a CAI and not getting a tune. The tune is going to release the rev limiter for one thing. That means peel outs galore.

i agree the tune opens up alot of things i have a tune with my SCT2 and it was pretty impressive. my point was that some may not want to tune due to waranty and this one will work if anything when shawn at so cal tuning hooked it up to his dyno it was a little rich and he wanted to add timing after the test is done. i spent the whole day there yesterday and these guys want to make us v6ers a great product. nick the owner showed me the airflow on a machine the use for testing and the dif between stock and the new unit was double. it flows ! i am not sure when they will be releasing this but most of the parts are already instock because the box is the same as the v8 version. thats how this all started. i emailed them and asked them when for a v6 they were not sure so i offered my car and they said ok.

ill keep posting
Tom

snazzy idea... get the intake now and get some nice increase in hp/tq... After the warranty expires, get a tune for some more yeehah fun! Or easily flash back to stock and put a few miles on 'er before going back to the dealer for warranty work.
