I have a guy selling an engine that he says is a Boss motor. The numbers he gave me were C8ZE9425A. I can only veify that this is a 1968 , mustang engine from the cleveland plant. I can find no verification on any Boss motors in 1968. Can anyone help me verify these numbers. Thanks

Um, I thought the "Boss" came out in 1969.

That's why he can't get any info on a 68 Boss engine because the Boss 302 was only built for the years 1969 and 70. Try to identify the engine by reading this article. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/kitcar/kb/a/35/Ford+Boss+302+Engine+Overview.html

The madabout-kitcars.com site gave me some answers. Looks like maybe there was an early atttempt at producing a "BOSS" type 302 in 68. But it only had two bolt mains versus the four bolt in 69. Maybe this is what the guy has. He is claiming 11-1 compression and 290 HP. Thanks for the web site information.

Didn't they get that kind of power out of the 289 HIPO?

Yes they did. And if it is a pre-69 Boss, then you have one rare animal on your hands.

However, there was a tunnel port design that didn't make it to design. http://www.jbaracing.com/hmsa68/powertrain.asp
