Anyone ever run full time a V8 Stang with nothing but pipe from the cats back?

I don't mean hacking off the exhaust system at the cats. I'm talking about replacing the mufflers with pipe.

I'm sure someone here has. Tell about it, if you would.

THANKS!!!

runing no muffers actually causes loss of power and sounds horrible. it some thing a hillbilly does when he is low on fundings.

he may not have worded it correctly (as to not sound like a jerk)...but...it does cause lack of low-end power

dude one more post towards me and youll see. im not here to talk s**t on ppl but, if you keep it up i will. so leave it as it is.

no muffers is provened that it sounds like ass. and you lose backpressure. think about it if no muffers is the key dont you think more ppl would do it. but since it sounds horrible ppl buy mufflers. and look at the charts on this subject.

i don't know what the big deal is here...no mufflers has been proven (like ohsoquick wrote) on charts to have a loss of power.  the ONLY way it's going to help on your typical street car is trying to reach top speed, where backpressure becomes your enemy.

only removing the mufflers and replacing them with pipe is not going to lose that much backpressure, especially enough to lose power, and super especially if you have cats on it still.

if you want to run no mufflers they sell a baffled S-pipe that you can install in place of mufflers.

You guys are killing me with your total BULLs**t backpressure statements.

Do you realize the whole point of headers is to reduce backpressure as much as possible? Do you realize that the best thing you can do is run open headers for performance, especially on a V8?

Would you like me to go time-slip hunting and pull out my time slips from my modified 88 Iroc-z with the cut-out both CAPPED AND UN CAPPED?

I see your car is modified, I would assume you would understand this debate, but I guess I'm wrong.

During the exhaust stroke, a good way for an engine to lose power is through back pressure. The exhaust valve opens at the beginning of the exhaust stroke, and then the piston pushes the exhaust gases out of the cylinder. If there is any amount of resistance that the piston has to push against to force the exhaust gases out, power is wasted.

Here's some more information, hold tight while I keep researching this even more.

on a low compression motor backpressure is good. on a high compression motor like 13:1 it is good to run open headers since then its not a street friendly car.
