I know it killed the cat... hopefully it won't get me....
curious...
Do you all frown on people who put aftermarket wheels and un original paint (colors and schemes) on old cars?
I've really been losing sleep at night tryin to figure out if I want to do a restore back to the original car, plain jane factory looking mustang, put on some stock wheels (gotta lose the hubcaps sorry) nice solid color paint job. (with a hopped up engine so I can sleeper it)
or if I want to restore it to a custom rod, like something you'd see on overhaulin' with Chip Foose, something thats gonna turn heads and lay rubber all over the place. Shinney wheels, dark grey paint with ghost mustangs runnin down the sides, or across the hood or something cool looking. Sitting low in the front and up in the rear. Like it's gonna pounce something if it is infront of it.
just wondered if you'd frown on me if I did it. Cause I don't wanna be the black sheep....
Shaun, as the old saying goes in the vintage mustang world. " it's your car so do with it as you please." As far as mods, there is absolutely no limit in how much hp you can produce with the correct add-ons and internal engine work. But when it comes to ricing out a vintage mustang with flames and blue lights underneath, we old mustangers will look at you sideways. That is what young kids do to Hondas.
I wouldn't rice it out, yuck, my tag on my truck (99 Dodge Ram Quad cab sport 4x4 with 315's on it (thats 37.5 inch tall tires) set up high enought to roll over a honda)
reads
"eats civics and ****s accords"
I hate ricemobils!!!!! with their stoopid coffey can pipes that stick out and sound like someone farting in a portapotty. And whats with the hood not matchin the rest of the car? *rolls eyes*
I was meaning more like a 70s muscle car, jacked up in the rear, bigger tires on the back, cool paint job (not over board tho)

There ya go Shaun. Now you have come to the right place to talk about vintage mustangs. Just don't do any stoopid body painting other than a plain color, and no long shackles.

I am of the same opinion as you also, Shaun. I will not be "restoring" my car to concourse condition either. I couldn't afford to if I wanted to, so I will be doing things as I see fit. Rebuild the motor, mean-sounding exhaust, new interior, my own choice of paint color and some nice wheels or "resto-modding" (restoring/modifying). I certainly have nothing against people who are into perfect restorations, in fact I admire them and wish I had the patience and knowledge to do that with a really nice car.
Like soaring said, we are just fine with RESTO-mods, but not with RICE-TO-mods
Good luck with your project and keep us posted!

I agree with all of these posts and know you wont turn it into a ricemobile. I think the lowered front and jacked up rear. Some of the two tone paint jobs in the late 60's are nice and wont look bad at all. Good luck with rebuilding a engine as i am in the middle od building a 347 for my 66 which will never be original again.
I prefer restomod, thats the way to go. But I think 18 inch rims look terrible on the old stuff. I have 15 inchers with big bfg's on the back, with smaller ones in the front and I like the way it looks and sits. (just have to get new springs and ditch the crap air shocks that someone put in it....)
