Default What exactly does "Bullitt" mean?

Looking at this 01 bullitt mustang to buy and just curious what that means exactly. I don't care if I get a GT, shelby, normal stang,etc. as long as its a 99-04 automatic V6 convertible. Just curious what this title meant mostly. Looked on Ford's website and they said they are brining them back in 08 but that's all I really got. Also I know I've seen bullitt rims. Kinda new to mustangs still so please forgive me.

Way, way, way back.....before you & I were born.....There was a movie of the same name and the lead character drove a green Mustang. There was also another movie where the lead character named his Mustang "Eleanor". This year's "Bullitt" package strips the fancy emblems & foglights off the car to make it look really plain, then they threw in a cold air intake, drag pack, suspension pack, and louder mufflers. The Eleanor Mustang is now built by Classic Recreations.

The only thing i really know is that it has more chrome interior items then other mustangs, and that they made them in '01.

taken from wikipedia....

"In 2001, the Special Edition Bullitt was released to the public. Available as a hardtop only, the Bullitt was a mildly upgraded version of the standard GT. Designed to be a handling-based vehicle as opposed to an all-out bruiser, the car was factory upgraded with a lowered suspension (3/4 inch), subframe connectors from the convertible models, new Tokico shocks, and brakes from the Cobra (13 in front, 11.7 in rear). The car also received an upgraded exhaust, a re-designed intake, and underdrive pullies. These power upgrades led to a factory rating of 265hp (198kW), a gain of five horsepower over the standard GT. On the exterior, the car received unique Torq-Thrust style wheels, removal of the fog lights and rear deck spoiler, as well as new trim accents. It was available in three colors: Dark Highland Green, True Blue, and Black"

hope that answers your question.

To Clarify:
GT = V8
Bullit = V8 and manual transmission
Shelby = V8, I think also available in manual only and not 99-04
"Normal" (ie no prefixes or suffixes to "Mustang") = V6

Do you have a link to the ad you're looking at? It may be a V6 but with bullit style rims or something like that.

I got a Bullitt, just look on the driver's side shock tower for the Bullitt Hologram. It's will tell you what number it is. Mine is Bullitt #03353
