Default S197 vs. C6 Vette vs. 350Z

Ok, well this happened yesterday, so I'm a bit late with my post.

I'm on a major road here in Miami; it has 3 lanes going both ways with a divider in between each directions. It's 9pm, so there's no traffic anymore. I'm in the middle line waiting for the green light, when I get a brand new, slut-red Vette pull up on one side, and a 350Z (year unknown) pulls up on my right.

So we're being gay and looking at each other like we want something......when the cross-street light turns yellow, we all start revving up; light turns green, and we take off pretty evenly.

Let me just get the 350Z outta the way......got spanked like an unwanted step-child. Halfway through 2nd gear, I saw his entire car in my passenger-side rear view mirror.

As far as the Vette goes, I don't know who was more surprised; me or him. The Vette was an automatic; it was obvious from the way it was driving right next to me.

So we are neck-and-neck up until 110mph, where he slooooowly start to pull on me; by 120-125 he had 3/4 to 1 car length on me. I was so freakin' happy, I nearly creamed my tighty-whiteys. So we slow down, he rolls his window down, and asks the infamous "what do you got in that thing?" I tell him my mods, he tells me his Vette is stock except for a K&N. He tells me no Mustang has been able to keep up with him; but he was cool so I didn't really say anything about that comment.

So yea, first Vette I race with my first S197. I know, I know......I'm not stock. I'm still quite satisfied with the outcome. If I'd a had my UDPs on, he'd be pretty pissed, let me tell you!

good run man...i had the same little encounter not too long ago and i barely edged him out but i have a few more mods than you, 1pc D/S, UDP's, delete plates atleast...of course, we both took off from a roll. i'd say thatyou got the better launch and those 3.73's helped out quite a bit.

kickin ass and takin names...now go get you a driveshaft[8D]

CobraSnake: It's a canned tune; but not from Diablo. It's a canned tune from Steeda......don't know which one is better or worse, but it's not a custom tune; not yet.

mac10chap: Oh, yea.......I want a driveshaft, too. I'm working on it. I already have a Zoom stage 2 clutch, and a Fidanza aluminum flywheel. I'm waiting to get my money right so I can get my driveshaft, and I'll dedicate a weekend to slapping everything on. It's still going to be a while, though. Hopefully sooner than later. I want the UDP's first; I'll probably spend $50-$60 and have Doug at BamaChips write me a tune, too(before the driveshaft). Unless I come across one at a really good price. Honestly, the price they go for makes me wonder it they are worth the expense(the driveshaft, I mean.).

Ive run 3 c6 vettes. One was a z06 and id rather not even think about that[8D]

Both of the other two were from 0-60ish, and we were pretty even... i know he would have pulled easily if we went longer. But pretty even. i was impressed.

Yea, you guys hear the most incredible stories, and I see the most incredible break-downs of races on this site, as well. On this site, anything you say can and will be used against you in your own thread. Nevertheless, I wanted to share my story. It made my day, and then some.

Now, the debate.

I never said I beat him; I said we were neck-and-neck until we past 100mph where he started to slowly pull on me. The guy did have a set of wheels on the Vette; maybe that slowed him down a bit; I'm not sure because I don't know how much bigger/heavier they were than the stocks. I can tell you they were H.R.E. 3 piece wheels, which are very expensive and I highly doubt they are very heavy.

I also said nothing about a roll. I thought I was pretty detailed about us taking off from a light. I got about a half-car lead on the take-off, but everytime I shifted, he pulled a couple of feet. By the time I hit 110, he was pulling steadily on me. By then, the 1/4 mile is over, though......I doubt I'm trapping more than 110 (if even that) with my mods.

What I don't find incredible is that 2 Vette owners on here are the ones questioning the run. ; Don't feel bad; he couldn't believe it, either. Honestly, neither could I.

Does anyone know how much slower(if they even are slower) the auto C6s are as opposed to the manuals?

I wouldn't play with a Z06.......

Well, I'm lying. I would, but I would go into it knowing I was walking into a losing situation. I'd do it mostly to see that bad-boy take off, but I wouldn't expect to even remotely hang with a Z06.

Why would I feel bad about you having a close win over a car that I would destroy?

Secondly I'm notquestioning your kill. Stuff happens on the street. Good kill.

I don't have a Corvette loyalty, you could have replaced the C6 with a stock Termie in that story, I would have posted the same comment.
