Well, it's 50 more hp and 50 more ft lbs of torque. They've also got a different program in the computer. So who knows. I will say that the day the 04's were going 14.0 was the same day a guy with an 05 GT made a bunch of 15.0 passes.
I don't know. I'll let you guys know what it runs probably after this weekend.
Dont forget the NEW motor, LS2 6.0. Better torque curve than the smaller Cobra motor. Also these motors are underated to 400hp. Dyno results ranged from 360-365 RWHP. About 425-430 crank HP. Good driver should run high 12's.
AHHHHHHH....the power of the LS2.

Yet I spend most of my time in an 04 Grand Cherokee.
The Cobra would probably win all of them, 05 GTO's are putting down about 345rwhp. The cobra also has 3.55 gears(I believe) to the GTO's 3.42's, and the weight is real close. Around here six speed 05's are running 13.2-13.4

Nah...The Goat said he didn't want any of that Bug and walked into the garage with his tail between his legs. So I fed it an old tuna can and went to bed.
I honestly can't say. I haven't been to the track. It's only 4 days old. But I'll tell you what. From a roll, I'd be careful. This thing pulls like a raped ape when you kick it in the ass at 25-30...
No offense Sidewayz, but that is one ugly-a$$ car. It looks like a cavalier or something. In fact, I was on the road yesterday when one pulled up next to me and revved, I thought someone was playing a joke until I looked more carefully. I'm not saying anything on how fast or slow those are because they have a good platform to build from and I'm pullied, so it was no contest. And the guy was cool, we stopped and chatted, I think he was more surprised at how loud and mean mine sounded (cat-less bassani X) and how fast I got out of the hole and pulled on him. But I think these cars have some mighty potential and are great sleeper cars because of their plain looks. IMHO.
Why is everything always an argument??? The Cobra outperforms it in every category. Look at the numbers. The GTO wins in every creature comfort category.
The GTO is the businessmans cobra. The c5 is the execs Cobra. The Z06 is the small penised middle aged mans cobra.
Oh well, it's a stretched Cavalier that has 400HP and a 6.0 stock.
Sounds like only Cobra owners have beef with the new GTO. Is it because 400HP N/A frightens you or something?
If you would have read what I said you idiot you would have seen that I don't have a beef with it other than I think it looks like sh!t. I think it is a heck of a platform, but this isn't gmforums.com, either. I gave it credit. It's amazing your a moderator for your infinite wisdom. I have nothing to fear in the GTO. I think it's great there are some worthy opponents out there from GM. Did someone piss in your wheaties today? Now, go pass your stupidity, I mean wisdom somewhere else.

2005 GTO - 3725 2004 Cobra - 3780
The # you listed for the cobra was for a convertable. The curb wieght of the coupe is 3665 lbs. -So I guess someone didn't do their research.
Actually, the site I got it from said SVT Cobra. (I just went and looked) It didn't specify. Regardless. I hardly think the extra 100 lbs is going to make a difference. You made it sound like it was a 5500 lb car. I'd be willing to bet that it would be a closer race than you think. I know you're the "Mustang beats everything" guy on here, but 400 hp and 400 ft lbs of torque with a WAY better designed chassis and suspension is nothing to sneeze at. At the risk of magazine racing here, the cobra's times are 12.9 and the GTO are 13.0 with an Automatic? How can you say
quote:
the cobra wins every time. Weight is a factor.
Thats just a stupid statement. It may be a tenth or two slower in the 1/4, but everytime? I'd put money on from a roll it will kick the **** out of a cobra. It makes it's power where the Cobra falls behind.
I'm not defending the GTO by any means. I haven't had it at the track, so I don't know. But I think you guys are just blinded by "It looks like a Cavalier "

Dude. It looks like a cavalier.

No offense but the color is ugly why didnt you get black, silver or even red. The bright blue reminds me of an srt-4
My point is my friend has a 05 Goat, and my brothers friends has an 03 white cobra, The cobra pull's on the gto in 5-6 gear stock vs stock the cobra will beat it, And dont deny with me i have seen it and will plan on video tapeing it next.
The Gto is nice though wish i could afford one nice car!!!
By the way both are skilled drivers.

Look, I'm really not a 'mustang beats all guy'. I have given credit where credit is due to many other cars besides mustangs. When I said:

I wasn't trying to over-imply anything or make it sound like the GTO weighed 5500 lbs. I was basing my statement on a few factors. The weight is less on a Cobra coupe vs a GTO, granted not a lot, but it is lighter. BTW, the 3665 # I gave was correct, the weight you gave is the weight of the vert. Even if I WAS wrong, I was surprised that you reacted the way you did.

Nobody is perfect, and everybody makes mistakes from time to time. (Although this time, I didn't make a mistake.) Another premise I was basing my original statement on is the fact the Cobra motor is considerably underrated at 390 hp. You must have taken my original post as a jab against the GTO. It was not intended that way. In the best of circumstances, at its best point, (a 40 mph roll?) the GTO might pull on the Cobra, but it wouldn't last long. The more the mph goes up, the more the Cobra has an edge. As much as you think, I do not believe my original statement was "just a stupid statement". I respect your GTO more than you realize, even if it does look like a Cavalier.
Can't quite remember the trap times but a couple weeks back I was at the track watchin my friend and some cars run.(woulda running too but no engine=lose) But those 05's were running around 13.3-12.9 Two or three of them had DEALER PLATES on them So they were bone stock straight from the factory
