Plus I have driven both cars (HARD), and I can tell you the GTO is a beast on the highway and flat out go's. IMO the Cobra is more of a "race" car and is better designed for cornering and coming hard off the twisties.
Here are some things about the GTO you may or may not know:
1.) Car has traction control which prevents it from spinning tires (slower 1/4 mile times, and no fun) when I turn off traction control I can spin the tires at will even in third.
2.) Shifter on GTO flat out SUCKS, I have never had more mis-shifts on any vehicle before. (that will be changed soon)
3.) Stock tires on GTO suck too. (I run a nice set of 245/40ZR18 Azini's, it made a huge difference)
4.) 2004 GTO has serious wheel hop issues, that has been corrected in 2005 (huge difference) but still some squat.
All in all both are great cars, I like the GTO and it is nicing having something everyone else doesn't.
I wouldn't take that 13.4 for the Cobra to heart....
Stock for stock, I don't see a GTO beating a Cobra with equal drivers. Most guys have no problem hitting 12's with bone stock Cobra's. They're quite potent.
It's hard to tell.... I know the Cobra's are supposedly under-rated, and they would have to be to pull 12's stock. Most people with the bone stock LS2 GTO's I've seen are pulling 12.9 - 13.3.
Are there any bone stock Cobra's out there ???? Most every Cobra owner I have talked to has the "need for speed" and has modded it one way or the other.
That is the nice thing about them is the after market.
It's very hard to compare cars just on numbers, my STi that I just sold did 13.3 stock and 12.7 with a downpipe and ECU tune. It would also get spanked from a role by either the GTO or Cobra with or with out mods. It's stregth was putting down power on the street with no fuss and was easy to drive at 10/10ths. I sold it because the mid priced sedan class is to big and very expensive for the One Lap of America, but less $30,000 Gt with over 3.8 liters is almost empty and was won by a stock 05 stang with minor suspension mods. It is also insanely expensive to break 500whp in a STi, upwards of $10-15k. Seems much cheaper in LS1 or 4.6. Everyone test drive all the cool cars and buy what you like and can afford, just stop bickering like a bunch of hormonal 13 girls.
Cobras are the same with tons of wheel hop and traction control(I believe) my 99 saleen has it but its disconnected but the cobra will run 12s easy stock if you can drive.Dont get me wrong the GTOs are very fast but the cobra is faster.I hate magazine specs they dont mean crap and usually are wrong especially C/D.Either way Good kill
I'm calling a fake, maybe it was a ripoff cobra, a gt possibly, I dunno, i'm bonestock and I don't think i'd have any problem with a gto, most gto owners and the cts owners agree i'd stripe them...byt he way the cobra mishifts constantly when your running, bad wheel hop also....Cobra is 0-60 4.5 seconds and stock 12.9 1/4. GTO can't compare...

you need to check a few things..... you are probably speaking to LS1 GTO owners, which definately will not hang with a cobra. As for the CTS-V that is an LS-6 and yes is still slower than the LS2 GTO.
As for the specs... No where does it state that the 04' Cobra does 0-60 in 4.5 or 12.9 in 1/4 mile.... but I know that it will, likewise I also know the 05' LS2 GTO stock is pulling 12.9 1/4 miles too. If that is the case then how can you say they can't compare???
Plus, have you even driven these other cars? I would guess not, what are you 18 or something?

Don't bother arguing with these guys, you won't get anyware
Yea, its pointless. Not like arguing on Corralnet, or LS1tech, where people are acutally educated, not just brand blind. "OMG, it's a Chevy, no way it can be fast!." I realize the grammar in that sentence far exceeds most of the users here, so it's not really accurate.
Damn this was a funny thread. Finally got done reading it all. Just go race a damn cobra, or if you have a cobra go race a GTO. That'll settle it for you (not speaking to anyone directly). I think the goat will do well and possibly win, really a drivers race I think.
