Default New engine - need advice

alright guys i don't usually post in here since i own a 67 and a 98 but..

i figured i might prowl in here and ask

developed piston slap in my original 289 so we're ditching it for a completely forged 306. i already have heads, and everything else.. but.. the car is mainly going to be a street machine for short hops (10-20 miles at a time) and weekly friday runs at the drag strip along with some points races.

right now i'm transferring the heads (Edelbrock Performer RPM) onto the engine along with the fms roller rockers, but i'm at a loss now.

i started in my 289 with a XE268H cam, a Performer RPM intake manifold and a 600cfm 4160 single feed.

we knew something was totally wrong especially sprouting out only a 13.99 @ 99 mph

so i'm asking now that we're switching to a new ROLLER motor, what cam / intake / carb would any of you suggest for some crazy power but works well with the heads i got along with the compression ratio (9.5:1) - i was thinking of switching to an Xcelerator and a 650 Double Pumper but still stuck on the cam section.

if anyone has any input feel free.

(also the car has 3.73 rear gears and a 2800 stall on a built c4)

Default RE: New engine - need advice

my 66 has a rpm intake with a 74 302 and so does my 85 with a 347 so the rpm intake will be fine as well as the rpm heads.. a friend of mine threw in an f-cam with all rpm stuff and a roller motor and went 12.94 @105 in a 68 cougar...I previously had an 11 to 1 306 in my 85 with rpm intake, afr 185's and comp xe282 cam and went 12.20's @112 ...so comp xe roller cams are decent ots cams
