Default need some help with power

my 88 gt isnt running right at all, on the higway it is fine, but when i going from 2nd to 3rd gear and not "racing it" it hesitates and shakes a bit and then all the sudden i have a boost of power and it is fine, i also noticed when it does this i can let off the gas and give it WOT the hesitation isnt there, the other thing i also noticed is that at high rpm it seems to have a power loss in like 3rd or 4th gear, i cant really notice it in 1st and second, the loss is at about 4500rpm, but i think that has to do with my supercharger and running lean, any ideas for either of the problems...

my first thought about the hesitation at lower rpms is that the distributor could be off by one tooth? i didnt build the motor and i ahvent had time to check that yet, but i want some pointers before i start this mess
