Default door lock, handle question

i got a idea to use the door lock cylinder as way to get in the car, in other words i dont want a handle, i want the door lock cylinder to be tied to the handle rod and when the key turns door pops open, my question is what is the best way to do this?

car is a 1966 ford mustang coupe

thanks

that sounds like its gonna take a lot of work. I can't remember out the guts of the lock and handle look like, but i think you would need some kind of spring if you wanted it to "pop" open. I think you'll probly be on your own on this one sorry.

I dont think your key would be strong enough to actuate your latch. you might be better off just doing a remote entry system.

exactly correct. the key is not strong enough to activate the latch. you will need to install actators. you can connect the actuators to a micro switch that is activated be the key though.

ok so how come on normal trucks lets say late 80's mazda trucks, i have seen people do what i was inquiring about, taking the lock cylinder and make it actuate the door handle rod, with no actuators or anything, i havent done any of this personally but i think it should be possible i mean all it would do is push a rod just the same as a door lock rod would

have you noticed how much easier a new vehicle is to open compared to an older vehicle?

the locking mechanism is a completely different design, i actually have to push with some sort of force to open the door on my 65, my monte carlo, my moms 08 mustang, as well as other cars i can literally just lift up on the handle with my pinky and they pop open.

personally though, if you are going to go so far as to use the key to pop open the door, you would be shaving off the handle. IF you are shaving off the handle you might as well shave off the lock as well.

Im sure theres a way you could do it, but for the time, money, engery, fruastration of doing a completely 1 off fabrication of it and going through a few trial & error periods you would be better off to drop the $ and just buy the kit.

You will be really pissed if you go to all this trouble, somehow make it work, then snap the key off in the lock, late at night, far from home, in the rain. #1 on if you shave the handle shave the lock. I know of several people who have snapped the key off just trying to unlock a door.
