i just put some stock gt take offs on my stock 96 6ixer and wasn't to happy with sound, will it sound better if i add a CAI

It will. but maybe not how you expect, if you want a taste test of CAI sound you can always just take the rubber air silence boot off you're airbox(if you remove the airbox, it is the rubber traffic cone looking thing in the fender wall) CAI/K&N sounds just like that with more airflow.
