Default Trying to buy a 97 Mustang

So Yeah.. I'm looking around for my first car and I recently found a 97 Mustang v6 on craigslist for 1600 but i can probably get him down a few hundred. The car has 195k miles though.. But i can deal with that for the right price.. So realistically, how much should i get him down for a 1997 Mustang with 195k miles? He says it runs strong and is smooth.. Its black but he says it has some door dings here and there and could use a new paint job but looks alright as is.. I'm just looking for something to start off with right now.. I'll probably end up upgrading to something better and more powerful when the time is right.

Help me out here!

You are going to end up spending more money than it's worth just to keep it running. I'd save up some more money and get something a bit better.

Theres nothign wrong with it from what the guy is telling me.. As long as they didn't beat the car down in its life.. then the mileage is just a number.. I'm going try and get him down to 1300$ atleast just in case i do have to replace some stuff.

How many miles does a v6 mustang usually last before crapping out?

even it was babied, that's a ton of mileage on the engine, tranny and suspension. All of those things are going to start needed a lot of attention.

I got him down to 1400 without even seeing it.. Might get it down alittle more.. But i think its a great deal for a 1997 Mustang that runs excellent.. I'm going to go see it tomorrow and test drive it.. If its smooth and drives nicely then i'll probably buy it and run it until she blows.

I found a 1995 for $2500 and this one has 253,000 miles.. God damnnnnnnn

I have a 95 with 228k, and I will tell you, things will start to need replacing, especially, front end parts. If you are handy with a wrench, go for it, if not, welcome to mechanic shop HELL, so it won't be worth it for you. Around here, I see 3.8 low mileage motors for 3 - 400 bucks. It really depends what you want to do, if you want to drive it for a little while then sell it, that would probably be your best bet. If you want to work on it and fix it up, get ready for some knuckle bustin' FUN!! GL
