Despite the fact that it will take between 7 and 14 years to start seeing an impact of offshore drilling, Georgie the Oil Man has declared that the only thing standing between Americans and cheap gas is... *drum roll* the Democrats! Yay! Here is an interview with non-politician Henry Lee, director of the Environment and Natural Resources Program at Harvard University, who basically says that futures have very little to do with oil costs, that any offshore oil production would take, MINIMUM, seven years to get into the system, and there is no such thing as "US oil for the US;" oil is a worldwide market. Oh, and he hasn't always been in academia, either... imagine that.
So. Let us sum up. Georgie, whose daddy is an oil man, whose VP is an oil man, and who is an oil man himself, is mad at those mean old Democrats who have held minimal power in a single branch of government for about 30 percent of his presidency, because they aren't letting his friends drill for oil and bring the price of gas down, even tho it will take years!
What a shameless piece of crap our President is. Shamless, political game playing con man who sees this as a long term way to make himself and his buddies even richer than they already are. What a damn shame. I am so damn sick of this guy... I cannot wait for him to be gone, and I know that most people feel the same way.
So... how long before one of the usuals comes in and starts defending the billionaires and discrediting a real professor, chances are without listening to the interview? I give it... three minutes.

However, thanks SO much for your intelligent post in response to the original! Really. Very thoughtful; you really showed the level of your ability to reason and think. What did you think of that interview?
Hey, at least you've got stick-to-it-iveness. Just like your boy George. Of course, generally speaking you should avoid sticking to... you know... failures... but whatever, in todays conservative world it is more important to stick to your guns than to be right. Congrats, you make us all proud.
You know, I always do wonder... that little percent of Americans that still likes George... that same group gets all up-in-arms over "elitist" this and "elitist" that... so how does George get a pass? He is a Yale guy, a skull and bones guy, the son of the SUPER rich that most of us cannot imagine, a guy who was handed an oil company to run and a baseball team to run and who was allowed to shirk out of Vietnam by joining an air force unit that also had like eight Dallas Cowboys on it and a host of Congressmen's sons and such and was known as a powder puff regiment... so, how is it that George escapes the "elitist" label? Is it just because... well... he is dumb? Of course, dumb doesn't counter elite, clearly, but is that enough to snow over that small percent of people who love Georgie?

RE: Ahh, I love our politicking Oil President!
I just don't know about that figure. I have heard so many figures from so many "reputable" sources, from people in the industry I have heard 6 months to 1 year, 3 years, most commonly the 5 to 10 years, and now the 7 to 14 years. But beside that people have been saying it won't affect us for years since the 70's. Its typical American procrastination, we need to do something someday, its sort of nice to see that something is starting to be done. Also you mentioned in your original post about his dad being in on the oil money, but he was the one who signed the ban in the first place back in 1990. Plus Bush is not blaming the Democrats from reading his statement from the Rose Garden and also articles from various news agencies nobody singled out the Democrats, it was a push against all of Congress. Also in the interview he almost stated that it would be a good idea for us to explore and begin to drill as to affect futures of oil and to help make us more energy independent.
