Default 2006 v6 auto BRAKE AND ROTOR QUESTIONS

hello to all,
my v6 is at about 23,000 miles and it allready needs new brakes AND rotors. Now a days ford put these crappy rotors on our mustangs and i want to get away from the stock rotors. I do not race my and i do not take her up to high speeds to often either ( i know its corny but i baby my car ) anyway i want to know:

What rotors are best quality and will last longest?
Which brand do you recommend?
Slotted or Drilled?
Brake pads Hawk?

If you don't race or travel at high speeds, slotted and drilled rotors are pretty much useless. You'll never be taking advantage of the benefits they offer. I don't know why you need to replace rotors after 23,000 miles unless the pads were shot and you scarred the rotors. If that's the case, then I wouldn't spend the extra money on slotted or drilled rotors if you're just going to scar them up again.

I'd replace the pads and ground the rotors. Save a few hundred bucks.

if you dont race the car how do you need to do brakes at 20k already?

just get OEM pads and rotors (i paid $25 eafor brand NEW rotors on mine it was the same price to have them milled)

thanks guys for the reply. but yes these rotors are crap i have gotten the same response from a couple of different techs. They all say the same thing that the rotors ford puts out now are light wieght to decrease the wieght of the car, which in the end give you more gas miles. but i did not scar the rotors i drive normal and have only raced it a few times no more then 3 since i have had her. so slotted rotors and hawk brakes wont last me any longer?

Wow, my stock rotors and pads lasted 60k miles, and I have over 40k on my new ones and they aren't half worn yet. Rotors should NEVER need replacement on the first brake job, unless you are one of those people that won't slow down for a red light and you just slam on the brakes. Even on S197's my friends have over 30k out of their stock brakes and just like me, they auto-x, and that's about as hard on brakes as you can get in a street car.

I have a test for ya. Go to McDonalds and buy a cup of coffee. Put it in your cuholder and take the lid off. If any of it spills when you stop, then you're hitting the brakes to hard and too late.

no smart guy i do not brake late i actually brake way before i get close to the car in front of me or to the light. i have had problems with the brakes when i first bought the car and took it to ford and they supposidly machined the rotors. they worked fine after that and then they are doing the same thing again, with regards to the vibration over 40mph and the slight squeek comming from the front brakes.

If you're not hard on the brakes, then just replacing the pads and rotors with the stock ones should work out fine. When I bought my Mustang, I bought lifetime pads and machined the rotors and haven't had any problems at all. That was 18,000 miles ago. I think you'll be fine without upgrading rotors, just think of what you could do with the extra couple hundred bucks.

id use a cup of water.... its not hot and wont stain

everytime i always do brakes i do rotors just for the peice of mind, they are cheap, and its NOT worth it to get rotors turned and machined

ok guys thanks. i know this may be a stupid question but i herd that if you use your emergency brake to park all the time ( on streets that are not on an incline ) that you will save on your brakes or will this hurt your brakes?

also does anybody know any ebay stores that sell lifetime pads. or should i just go directly to ford?

If you would have said that ford had worked on the rotors before then that would have changed pretty much all the flaming that you got. Next time don't leave out crucial information like that.

Oh, and that's the point of using coffee, you'll be less inclined to just say "aw **** it" and do it anyway. Fear of dark sticky stains will definately alter any bad driving habits.

I think the same technique would probably improve gas mileage, since you'd have to take off slow. All I need to do now is make a Powerpoint presentation, fill it with a bunch of lies, and Nobel prize, here I come! YAY!
