i somehow doubt every single car will have to have 35 mpg.

they'll just tax those that don't.

I think the variable cylinder tech is promising. It'll allow power when you want it, and MPG when you need it. Think back to the old muscle cars back in the day. Our cars get way better MPG than them. The MPG we get was unheard of then.

you do realize that back in the 70s early 80s when the whole gas thing hit and people wanting more fuel efficient cars that a few politicians rallied for a law to be put in effect that would have required by 2010 that all cars had to meet a 35mpg rate right?

i beleive it was by something like 1990 they had to be like 25mpg by 2000 30mpg then 35 by 2010 ... or it was 40 by 2010 i cant remember.

No body would go for it and said it was crazy. cars after the big gas crisis then went to an avg of 22mpg (where the avg now is only 20) and then the 90s hit and people started wanting bigger, better, faster, cooler cars and everyone forgot about the gas crisis in the 70s and the avg horsepower has more then doubled since the 80s and the avg miles per gallon has dropped since then as well

Yeah i think they are going to go with variable cylinder technology to get around that. If your engine is running on four Cylinders instead of eight then you should be good. Hopefully they will make it easy to cut off that option kinda like the traction control button.

If 4 cylinders deactivate, won't your car sound like poop at the traffic light? (Suppose a V8)
