if you put a tach from a 5.0 into a mustang, it will read twice the amount of a 2.3 tach. ie. if your doing 1000 rpms, it will read 2000.

5.0 tach in a 2.3 will read HALF the actual value
2.3 tach in a 5.0 will read DOUBLE the actual

so in a 2.3 with 5.0 tach it will read 1000 when the engine is actually at 2000

It's fixable, but you have to take the tach apart. Requires removing a couple things & soldering in a potentiometer.
