Default O/R H Pipe

This might sound dumb but i'm pretty new at this stuff and i was wanting to know what makes the off road h pipe not pass emissions test. I live in Houston, Texas and i was wanting to know before i spend the cash on one. And maybe there is a way to bypass the emissions test with the O/R h pipe installed?

Welcome to the forums, and remember, there's not too many "dumb" questions....we all had to learn some how.

To your question, and off road pipe doesn't have catalytic converters, which clean up the exhaust. without them, you won't pass emissions testing in a place like houston. Youwill need to find a place that will accept "tips" for a sticker, or just swap back on the stock midpipe when it comes time for inspections.

On a postive note, it will make your exhaust LOUDER and give you a few hp at the wheels

Would you say it is worth swapping them off and on? Or just a waste? And how much a decent O/R H pipe go for? Thanks!

they have a special surface to deflect tumbleweeds and brush LOL

you can get one for under $200. makes the car sund beautiful but LOUD. PITA if you get caught by a hardass cop (ask me how I know). A few h.p. increase, slight loss of torque down low (not that the 3v has much anyway).

Would a catted h pipe give me a deeper and better sound then stock?

the stock mid pipe is a catted h pipe
you could switch the mid pipes back and forth when testing time comes around. idk if its worth it or not, to me it would not be worth it. i would rather look for a shop that accepts 'tips', or a friend that will pass me on the inspection.
you could also switch the axlebacks for a louder deeper sound that would be a lot easier than switching the mid pipes.
you could also try mil eliminators w/ the o/r h pipe to fool the ECU and not get a CEL, but i'm not sure if this will work, i havent tried it.

I think it would be worth it. I had SLP LM"s for 4-5 months, they were okay. But an offroad mid pipe is just soo much better. Im from dallas btw.

well, idk if i know alot i'm sure others know alot more than i do, what i know i learned here on this forum and other places
but like whtcanbrwnd04u said, the o/r mid pipe does sound good, and i have an o/r x-pipe as well as LT's and boomtubes so i like my exhaust pretty loud. if i absolutely had to switch out the midpipes for inspection, i would if i couldnt find someone who could pass me. but i live in an anarchist state where emissions have regulations but no way to enforce them so we pretty much all have o/r mid pipes and LT's here.

but about the axlebacks, the ones that i like are boomtubes (of course), stingers, and Mac, and pypes mid mufflers. all these will be louder than stock, but sound is subjective so it's up to you to determine what is good for you. heres a link to the exhaust thread, i think some of the video links got erased but there should be alot to look over in here.
